We should have, as a component of our system, which represents half of the House of Peers (the other half being life peers) a landed class not fully dependant on bourgeoisie pursuits, who through the nature of their title hold a stake in posterity. They serve as an influence for preservation.
The Lords should be inferior to the Commons, with a similar power arrangement to now (reintroducing law lords doesn't impact the House's legislative powers much, though has a beneficial psychological impact on the status of the Lords.) as the Lords still holds significant power revising, amending and improving flawed legislation from the Commons and obstructing things such as euthanasia. Hereditary peers should be a part of this, as they have been for 700 years and is our tradition.

I have no sympathy for Peter Mandelson’s self-inflicted ordeal. But I hope he has support around him.
I recall being alone in the UK while my partner was abroad, when the world believed I was a child murderer. I came close to despair.
