We are thrilled to share that Sheila Wilding has been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Unsung Hero’ category at The Pearson National Teaching Awards 2026. Sheila is Lead Cleaner at Winstanley College and has been part of our community since 1995.

Sheila is one of the most dedicated managers in our College. She leads by example, with a fantastic work ethic and a willingness to roll up her sleeves and get stuck in whenever needed. Thanks to Sheila and her team, classrooms and social spaces across College are always maintained to the highest standard, helping us present Winstanley at its very best for students, staff and visitors.

Sheila also makes a huge impact through the way she connects with people. One member of staff shared: “Every time I see her, she makes me smile.” Another colleague perfectly captured why Sheila is so deserving of this recognition: “Sheila embodies everything that makes someone an unsung hero: quiet strength, compassion and a selfless ability to lift others when they need it most.”

We will be proudly celebrating Sheila and all our colleagues on National Thank a Teacher Day on Wednesday 17 June, when the results will be announced.

We’re Hiring: Learning Support Mentor (2 positions)

Winstanley College is looking for an enthusiastic and empathetic Learning Support Mentor to join our dedicated Learning Support team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by supporting students aged 16–19 as they prepare for higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

Key responsibilities include:
• Providing tailored one-to-one and small group support for students with
additional learning needs
• Helping students develop effective study skills, organisation and time
management
• Working collaboratively with teaching staff to implement and review
support plans
• Encouraging independence, confidence and resilience in students’ learning
• Maintaining accurate records of support and contributing to progress
reviews

Winstanley College is looking for an enthusiastic Teacher of Maths to join our thriving department. This 0.8 role is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire students studying A-level Maths and Further Maths in a supportive and high achieving sixth form environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering engaging and effective teaching across A-level Maths and
Further Maths
• Planning and preparing lessons in line with curriculum and exam board
requirements
• Assessing, tracking and reporting on student progress
• Supporting students’ academic and personal development through
mentoring and guidance
