In 2022, I made a life-changing decision. I walked away from my job to do something I never imagined — write a book.
That book became Mao’s America: A Survivor’s Warning https://t.co/JiUgmaTsZY — about two Cultural Revolutions: one I survived in China 50 years ago, and one is unfolding in the United States.
But a bigger question remained: How did Communist China become America’s most powerful adversary?
That led me to write Made in America: The Hidden History of How the U.S. Enabled Communist China and Created Our Greatest Threat. https://t.co/1Ydff0nJct
This isn’t just history. It’s the missing story of how we got here.
The Chao family’s story is one many Americans may not know.
The family’s billion-dollar shipping fortune is closely tied to patriarch James Chao’s personal relationship with former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.
The Chao family has also been a major financial supporter of Mitch McConnell, contributing millions to his political campaigns and significantly increasing his family’s wealth.
Elaine Chao’s younger sister, Angela, later took over the family shipping company. While an American citizen, she served on the boards of China’s largest state-owned bank, Bank of China, and China State Shipbuilding Corporation, a major Chinese state-owned defense contractor. She died in 2024 after driving her vehicle into a pond on her Texas ranch, in what authorities ruled was an accidental drowning.
Elaine Chao has long maintained unusually high-level access to senior Chinese Communist Party officials.
The question is simple: Do you trust Mitch McConnell?
I went to Washington, D.C., for the America250 celebration. I almost didn’t go because of the extreme heat, but I knew I couldn’t miss such a historic occasion.
I lasted about 30 minutes before heading home. The crowds were massive, the National Mall was packed, and the entrances were closed. In the crush of people, I lost the microphone I used to record.
It was hot and exhausting. I didn’t accomplish much. But I can proudly say: I was there for America’s 250th birthday! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Now I’ll enjoy the fireworks from the comfort of home, watching them on TV tonight.
