How election results are recorded, analyzed, interpreted, and communicated has a direct bearing on public trust and political stability. Inaccurate reporting or a poor understanding of election results management can fuel misinformation, deepen mistrust, and potentially trigger electoral violence.

Today, together with our partners @cemesoofficial and @IPCng, we conducted an academy for journalists covering #OsunDecides2026, focused on strengthening their understanding of election results management and responsible results reporting. This is more than a media capacity-building initiative; it is a conflict mitigation strategy. By equipping journalists with the knowledge to accurately interrogate, analyze, and communicate election results, we can reduce misinformation, manage public expectations, and mitigate tensions that may arise from inaccurate or misleading reporting.

Today, we hosted an Election Academy for journalists covering the Osun Governorship Election, focused on Electronic Transmission and Collation of Results and how journalists can better report on the process.

We also took journalists through our Election Results Analysis Dashboard (ERAD) and Process and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT) methodology, which supports our independent monitoring of the results process.

Our Director of Programmes, @DCynthiaM, speaking on electoral preparedness ahead of the Osun Governorship Election, highlights voter inducement, security threats, and other emerging concerns that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

She stressed the need for strong institutional preparedness, particularly by INEC and security agencies, and called for commitments to translate into action to guarantee an election that is free, fair, safe, transparent, and credible for every voter.

We took the message to the streets of Osogbo ahead of the 2026 Osun Governorship Election, not to influence their choice at the ballot, but to remind them that the choice belongs to them.

Because an election can only reflect the will of the people when the people show up to make that will known. Democracy gives us a voice, but it is our presence at the polls that gives that voice power.

Women have taken to the streets of Osun to protest the rising wave of killings and pre-election violence ahead of the governorship election. The women marched to the Osun State Police Headquarters, where they submitted a petition demanding urgent action to halt the violence, protect citizens and hold perpetrators accountable.
