For the journalists and editors out there, there's some really great job openings at THE CITY, including my former position reporting on the NYPD and city government https://t.co/z4npVMiceh.
If you have any questions about it feel free to DM me 3/3
Some professional news: After 20+ years reporting on NYC government, I'm joining it as comms director for Council Speaker @SpeakerMenin. Grateful to the speaker and council for the opportunity 1/3
I'm also leaving what I know to be one of the best jobs in journalism, at one of the best and warmest publications on the planet. Can't say enough good things about the people and the work at THE CITY over these past seven years. It's what journalism should strive to be 2/3
EXCLUSIVE and BREAKING: A Grand Jury in Washington Rebuffed the Trump Justice Dept.'s Attempt to Indict 6 Democrats in Congress who posted a video last fall that enraged President Trump by reminding active-duty members of the military and intelligence community that they were obligated to refuse illegal orders. The rejection was a remarkable rebuke, suggesting that ordinary citizens did not believe that the lawmakers had committed any crimes. https://t.co/PoQSwoMUTF
For months, we have investigated the use of Tasers by the NYPD. We found in 2023 73 percent of people shot with a Taser during a mental health emergency were unarmed. This as Taser use has more than tripled in the last decade. Part 1 of our investigation: https://t.co/t8U6SkAzgL
The elimination of multiple standing EOs all at once requires admin explanation to clear up confusion - but also part of reporters’ jobs to ask rather than assume
This is a joke because the NYPD foil office doesn’t answer the phone or respond to emails. The phone number to make in-person appointments? They don’t answer that either
NEW: Audit by comptroller Brad Lander finds the city and the municipal unions for years improperly used a key fund that pays for city workers’ health benefits — leading it to insolvency — and recommends dissolving the fund https://t.co/JOfcsrDt02 via @THECITYNY
New: DCAS Commissioner Louis Molina, a close ally to Mayor Adams, is stepping down from his post Wednesday, but will keep getting paid by the agency until Jan. 20 as part of an unusual arrangement that ensures he then immediately gets an NYPD pension. https://t.co/7f4zIuqtC4
In what may be his final mayoral press conference, Eric Adams says his next act will involve "using cryptocurrency to go after violence, educate our children and deal with antisemitism."
*New* Lincoln Restler will introduce a bill today to create the Department of Community Safety, a key part of Zohran Mamdani’s agenda. It has 26 co-sponsors, a majority of the current Council: https://t.co/jDsTFtcNnl
Brian Benjamin knowingly sought out public campaign matching funds based on fronted donations and had his charges dropped because the cooperating witness who pleaded guilty to orchestrating the scheme died. https://t.co/bMV73tYiKv
I’m sorry why exactly was the former NYPD Chief of Patrol running my name in department computers ?
How was this tied to the NYPD Sergeant who threatened our families lives and this same “chiefs” team of guys attempting to bully us into silence ? We don’t know because IAB failed to investigate blatant CORRUPTION.
Why was he informally interviewed by another person who was also a subject of the same CORRUPTION investigation ?
The same guy who conducted this “informal interview” was removed as the Chief of Internal Affairs for not doing his job overseeing Internal affairs and properly reporting CORRUPTION.
How exactly was this query “lawful & proper” ?
So in other words unlike rank & file officers, the upper echelon of the NYPD can run names of the public in department computers without them being a subject of a criminal investigation.
Imagine a rank and file member of the NYPD ran an illegal aliens name in department computers what would happen to them.
Free Speech that the mayoral administration & his appointed NYPD cronies don’t agree with makes you a “Criminal” in the peoples republic of New York.
Opinions are crimes. The Weaponization of the NYPD against critics, the personal misuse of police resources along with reverse engineered IAB investigations is now common place.
