Thank you Rt Hon Speaker @Parliament_Ug@ObothOboth for gracing the dialogue with your presence. Thank you @SanusiTejan@IOM_Uganda @NwannweObahor @UNDPUganda@UNICEFUganda@UCC_ED for powering the dialogue. Alluta continua!
Advancing Gender Equality for Inclusive and Sustainable Development
UN Women Country Representative emphasized that gender equality and meaningful community participation are essential to achieving sustainable development.
The discussion highlighted the need to address structural barriers that limit women’s access to finance, leadership and economic opportunities while ensuring that climate interventions respond to the realities of marginalized and vulnerable communities.
It also underscored the importance of evidence-based approaches that go beyond representation to measure whether women and girls have the resources, influence and opportunities to participate meaningfully in decision-making.
Sustainability cannot be truly inclusive until women and girls are empowered to shape solutions, lead change and benefit from development.

Turning Green Skills into Decent Jobs and Economic Opportunities
Enable highlighted the green economy as both an environmental priority and an opportunity for enterprise development, innovation and employment, particularly for young people.
The discussion emphasized the importance of understanding market needs, equipping young people with relevant practical skills and connecting training to real employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
For the green economy to thrive, sustainability initiatives must respond to market demand while creating viable businesses and decent jobs.
The future of green jobs depends on aligning the skills young people acquire with the opportunities the market actually offers.

Financing Resilience and Unlocking Opportunities for a Green Economy
The Managing Director of @UgEquityBank highlighted the role of sustainable financing in strengthening Africa’s resilience and supporting businesses and communities to respond to climate-related challenges.
The discussion explored the importance of financing agriculture, manufacturing and micro and small enterprises while integrating environmental sustainability into investment decisions. Appropriate financial solutions can strengthen agricultural value chains, support enterprise growth, create jobs and accelerate the transition towards a resilient economy.
A sustainable economy needs more than ideas; it needs accessible financing that enables people, businesses and communities to turn those ideas into impact.

Speaker @ObothOboth has called on leaders in strategic positions to stop trading statistics in boardrooms and deliver measurable action in the wake of climate change causing damage across Uganda.
Speaking at the Third CEOs’ breakfast meeting and high-level dialogue on Green Economy and Environmental Sustainability, Oboth said that environmental shocks are destroying livelihoods and infrastructure and he pledged Parliament’s support for robust climate action.
From Climate Dialogue to Meaningful Environmental Action
The Rt. Hon. Speaker @ObothOboth of @Parliament_Ug called for stronger collective responsibility in protecting Uganda’s natural resources and securing a sustainable future for generations to come.
Emphasizing the importance of listening to nature’s warning signs, protecting forests and wetlands, and embracing modern technology, the Speaker underscored the need to move beyond discussions and translate environmental commitments into practical action.
He reaffirmed Parliament’s role in supporting appropriate laws and policies that promote environmental protection and sustainable development.
The future of our environment depends not only on the commitments we make today, but on the action we take to honour them.

Yesterday, I officiated as Chief Guest at the 3rd CEOs’ Breakfast Meeting and High-Level Dialogue on “Accelerating Uganda’s Green Economy Transition through Digital Transformation.”
In my remarks I observed that we cannot win a battle with Mother Nature. As Pope Francis wrote in Laudato Si’, “The climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all.”
We face not two crises but one - environmental and social. The last eleven years were the hottest on record. In 2025 the planet was about 1.43°C warmer than pre-industrial levels.
Africa emits under 4% of global greenhouse gases yet loses 2–5% of GDP yearly to climate shocks. Uganda’s forest cover has fallen from 24% in 1990 to 11.8% today.
Between 2020 and 2025 we lost 38,000 hectares a year — one football pitch every ten minutes. Parliament will continue to legislate, appropriate and oversee so that climate priorities become action.
We welcome the One Constituency One Million Trees Initiative and look forward to the 7th SDG Run on 8 November 2026.
The green transition is also an opportunity for investment, innovation and jobs. The climate belongs to us all. We can never win a fight against Mother Nature.
I thank the organisers for the wonderful appreciation award!

As a partner in the 7th SDG Run, IOM emphasized the need to mobilize government institutions, development partners and private-sector actors to advance environmental awareness and sustainable development, with ESG strategies providing an important avenue for private-sector engagement.

Investing in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Is Investing in Our Future
Dr. Robin Nandi of @UNICEFUganda underscored the critical role of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in protecting children’s rights, improving public health and supporting sustainable economic development.
He emphasized the need for increased investment in water and sanitation services, particularly for marginalized and underserved communities. He also highlighted the potential of technology and data-driven approaches to improve water-resource management and strengthen service delivery.
Access to safe water, adequate sanitation and hygiene is more than a basic necessity; it is fundamental to children’s dignity, health and future opportunities.
A sustainable future begins with ensuring that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to safe water and sanitation.

Building a Sustainable Digital Future Through Responsible E-Waste Management
Dr. Fred Otunu, Director of Corporate Affairs at the @UCC_Official highlighted the importance of responsible electronic waste management, carbon-footprint monitoring and sustainable digital practices in advancing environmental sustainability.
He emphasized that electronic waste presents both an environmental challenge and an economic opportunity through recycling, material recovery and responsible waste management. He also called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to translate sustainability commitments into measurable results.
Looking ahead to the 4th CEOs Breakfast Meeting and High-Level Dialogue, he challenged stakeholders to reflect on progress made and demonstrate accountability for commitments undertaken.
The goal is not just to make commitments, but to turn them into measurable environmental impact.
