I am an overprotective helicopter parent at times …. It’s hard not to be. I’ve also pulled a random 2 year old out from under a dock where everyone was watching! When the child went in he did not make a peep !

Assign a watcher. Make it one person’s responsibility. Make it their responsibility to hand off that responsibility. Always.

My elderly patient is 8 hours and counting on an EMS stretcher - no labs, no imaging, no transfer - just an orange bed sheet and a paralyzed paramedic crew. I ask first ministers to imagine if this was your parent how would you feel about this unacceptable situation.

QA/QI is more than how we can do better.

Sit down with your Paramedics. Bring out the call report and review the case. Then tell them how much they nailed it and shake their hands.

The next time you suggest areas of improvement they'll be more receptive.
