As Zimbabwe awaits the next step in the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) process following its passage through Parliament, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) reiterates its call for a national referendum on these proposed constitutional changes.
In our Statement of Inputs to Parliament, we maintained that the Bill fundamentally alters the 2013 Constitution, including provisions that extend the tenure of current office holders. Given the far-reaching nature of these amendments, we believe they require the direct consent of the people through a national referendum, rather than parliamentary approval by institutions and individuals that stand to benefit from the proposed changes.
The 2013 Constitution is a people's covenant. Any fundamental changes to its architecture should be determined by the people themselves.
"Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the rights of the poor and needy." - Proverbs 31:9

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" - Mathew 5:9
The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) joins the global community in observing the first annual UN Peacebuilding Week, held from 22-26 June 2026, under the theme, “Partnerships for Innovation, Inclusion and Impact.”
The ZCC recognizes that sustainable peace is built through dialogue, mutual understanding, and the active participation of all sectors of society. Through our HEART Strategy (2026–2030), we continue to place dialogue at the centre of our peacebuilding work, creating safe and trusted spaces where communities, faith leaders, government institutions, civil society, and other stakeholders can engage constructively on issues affecting Zimbabwe's future. Since its inception in 1964, the ZCC has played a convening and bridge-building role, facilitating dialogue across diverse groups and supporting peaceful approaches to addressing social, economic, and governance challenges.
As we commemorate UN Peacebuilding Week, we reaffirm our call upon all Zimbabweans to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and collaboration as essential foundations for sustainable peace and national transformation.

As we close off the week, we celebrate the power of compassion demonstrated by our Bulawayo Women Ecumenical Fellowship (Mubatanidzwa/Mabandla), who on Wednesday 17 June visited Mlondolozi Maximum Prison to extend love and support to female inmates. The delegation donated essential items including sugar, rice, socks, peanut butter, vaseline, tissue paper, bathing soap, sanitary pads, master diapers, and other supportive items.
Beyond the donations, the fellowship shared the Word of God, offered words of encouragement, and prayed together for strength, healing, and brighter days ahead. The visit brought comfort and renewed hope to the women behind bars, reminding them that they are not forgotten. The Bulawayo WEF have committed to making this outreach an annual ministry of accompaniment and solidarity with the inmates.
This act of compassion built on similar efforts by the Bulawayo fellowship, with City Mabandla, a local ecumenical grouping, having also extended support to patients at Ingutsheni Central Hospital on 10 June 2026 through the donation of various essential items.
Through these acts of compassion, the WEF demonstrated love, care, and solidarity with vulnerable members of the community, bearing witness to Christ's call to serve with humility and compassion.
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." – Galatians 6:9.

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) joins all people of Africa in commemorating the Day of the African Child 2026 under the theme, "Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa."
As we remember the courage of the children of Soweto, we reaffirm that every child deserves dignity, health, protection, and equitable access to clean water, safe sanitation, and good hygiene as essential foundations for their growth and flourishing. Guided by Christ's words, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:14), we call for collective action to ensure that no child is left behind.
Through our Youth Leadership Development Programme (YLDP) and the intentional integration of youth participation across all our programmes, the ZCC remains committed to accompanying young people as they contribute to peace, governance, climate justice, and social transformation.
To all young people: continue to be ambassadors of peace, integrity, innovation, and hope. Use your God-given talents and gifts to transform your communities and our continent.

Earlier this year, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) Supervisory Council adopted the Church as Watchman Framework, grounded in Ezekiel 33:7, where God declares, "I have made you a watchman for the people." The framework reaffirms the Church's calling to understand and respond to the issues affecting our communities and nation, promote justice, uphold peace, and encourage responsible citizenship.
As national conversations on constitutional matters continue, the ZCC encourages citizens to remain prayerful, stay informed, participate peacefully, and contribute constructively through legitimate public processes.

Zimbabwe Council of Churches General Secretary Reverend Wilfred Dimingu has called for peace, tolerance and national unity as debate on the Constitutional Amendment Bill continues in Parliament.
🙏 A Continuing Call to Prayer for Zimbabwe
As Parliament continues deliberations on the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Bill (CAB 3) this week, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches once again calls upon churches, citizens, and all people of goodwill to remain steadfast in prayer for our nation.
Scripture reminds us that leadership carries a sacred responsibility to serve the people with wisdom, humility, and justice. The Bible offers sobering lessons when leaders ignore counsel and govern contrary to the welfare and aspirations of the people:
King Rehoboam rejected the people's plea for relief, resulting in a divided kingdom (1 Kings 12). King Saul's disobedience brought instability to the nation (1 Samuel 15). King Uzziah's pride led to his downfall (2 Chronicles 26). Even King Nebuchadnezzar was humbled when pride displaced accountability (Daniel 4).
These biblical accounts are moral instructions, reminding all who exercise authority that power must be guided by humility, accountability, and service to the common good.
As the parliamentary debates continue, let us pray that all decisions made will uphold constitutionalism, justice, national unity, and the aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe. May wisdom prevail over expediency, and may the voice of the people be heard and respected.
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." - Psalm 33:12

📢 A Call to Prayer for Zimbabwe
Following Parliament's Second Reading of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3) yesterday, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches calls upon all citizens, churches, and people of goodwill to pray for our nation.
Legislators are expected to begin debating the Bill today, after considering the Second Reading presentation and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee report. As this important constitutional process unfolds, we encourage Zimbabweans to remain informed, engaged, and prayerful.
As people of faith, we are reminded that leadership is a sacred trust and that the pursuit of justice, accountability, and the common good requires both active citizenship and prayerful reflection.
Let us pray that:
- Our leaders will act with wisdom, integrity, and humility;
- Decisions made will uphold justice, accountability, and the dignity of all people;
- Zimbabwe will continue to pursue unity, peace, dialogue, and the common good.
"Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8
May God guide our nation during this important moment in its democratic journey.

This week, we celebrate the faith, resilience, and unwavering commitment of the Greater Mashonaland West Province Women Ecumenical Fellowships (Mubatanidzwa weMadzimai), who gathered in Nyamhunga, Kariba, on the 29th of May 2026, for an all-night of prayer under the theme: “Arise and Shine, Be Empowered for Transformation.”
Burdened by the realities facing their province, including drug and substance abuse, economic hardships, child marriages, and other social challenges, the women came together to stand in the gap through prayer and intercession. Like Queen Esther, who courageously interceded for her people in a time of crisis (Esther 4:14-16), these women continue to lead in prayer, seeking God's guidance, healing, and transformation for their families, communities, province, and nation.
In solidarity with the women were ZCC Local Ecumenical Fellowship leaders, including the Kariba District and Mashonaland West Provincial Chairpersons, demonstrating the collective commitment of the Church to addressing the challenges affecting our communities.
"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you." - Isaiah 60:1
📢 DID YOU KNOW?
Parliament resumes sitting today, Tuesday 2 June 2026, and the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Bill (CAB3) is expected to be introduced for its First Reading.
This marks the beginning of the Bill's formal consideration by Parliament before it proceeds through subsequent stages of debate.
As discussions on CAB3 continue, it remains important for citizens to stay informed, follow parliamentary proceedings, and engage with issues that have significant implications for constitutional governance, democracy, and the future of Zimbabwe.
Let us continue to engage our Members of Parliament to help inform Parliamentary debates. Remember to pray for our leaders for wisdom, integrity, and sound judgement as they deliberate on this important conversation. “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” - Jeremiah 29:7

Today, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) joins the continent in celebrating Africa’s rich heritage, diversity, resilience, and shared future.
As an ecumenical body, we celebrate the spirit of unity, solidarity, and fellowship across denominations and borders, recognising that together we can contribute to an Africa marked by peace, justice, dignity, and shared prosperity.
As we commemorate Africa Day 2026, we reflect on this year’s continental call to ensure sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems for all, recognising access to clean water and dignified sanitation as essential to health, justice, human dignity, and flourishing communities. This call builds on the momentum of last year’s focus on justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations, reminding us that true reparative justice also requires addressing systemic inequalities that continue to limit access to life-sustaining resources and opportunities.
We further acknowledge the African Union’s declaration of 2026 - 2036 as the Decade of Reparative Justice for Africans and People of African Descent, a renewed continental commitment to healing historical injustices, restoring dignity, and advancing equitable and inclusive development for all.
May we continue building bridges of peace and working together for the Africa we want - united, peaceful, just, and flourishing.
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”- Ephesians 4:3
Happy Africa Day!
