That they've zeroed in on the idea that their neighborhood is secretly a mountain lion habitat exposes one of the more broken aspects of CEQA: habitats were never actually mapped! It's all a big, speculative argument! Thankfully, it doesn't matter anymore

When an election reform like the Top Two has more impact on voter’s choices than each candidate’s positions on issues…
and voters resort to “strategic voting” to overcome or to take advantage of the reform…
then that reform has failed.

Lots of celebratory posts and videos about the LA Metro D line extension. At $900 million per mile, the 3-station line is cheap by California standards, and, unlike some other rail projects around the state, they got it done.
Maryland will not be a place where fear rules. This Session, we passed the Community Trust Act, limited ICE detention facilities from expanding in our State, and protected hospitals, schools, and courthouses as safe spaces.
No matter where you were born, you are part of this community and we will defend your constitutional rights.
I’m proud that my firm, https://t.co/Akkzdu58ks, had the opportunity to support the @ACLU_MD on a digital paid media program that helped drive momentum behind the Community Trust Act (SB 791/HB1575). This legislation limits informal law enforcement collaboration with ICE and protects individuals who have not been convicted of a crime from transfer to ICE without a judicial warrant.
It was one of the most closely watched and controversial bills of the session, ultimately passing the Maryland General Assembly in the final hours on Monday.
It now awaits signature by @GovWesMoore.
Grateful to @AmyWiwuga for trusting us to execute such a high-impact program.
We're looking forward to sharing the next big win with you all tomorrow!
ANNAPOLIS ALERT🚨: Maryland House Approves Major Policy Shift on Immigration Enforcement In a late-night session that stretched until nearly midnight on Saturday, the Maryland House of Delegates voted 92-37 to pass Senate Bill 791, also known as the "Community Trust Act."
Yesterday, the Maryland Senate passed the Community Trust Act, a bill I sponsored to prevent counties and sheriffs from using backdoor loopholes and workarounds to collaborate with ICE's deportation machine. TY to @CASAforall, ACLU, labor, and others for getting the job done!
Maryland General Assembly….
A marathon of a night!
Numerous floor sessions, long debates and we finally passed SB 791, the Community Trust Act. It’s moving forward to protect our immigrant communities.
I am proud to be a co-sponsor for the House version, HB 1575.

NEW: Maryland House of Delegates passes the Community Trust Act, setting more parameters around when jails/law enforcement can contact ICE about individuals in custody.
It goes back to the state Senate for review on Monday, final day of the session.

The Community Trust Act that is advancing in the Senate after weeks of negotiation with advocates is a reflection that due process is the bedrock of our United States Constitution.
Maryland must use every tool at the State’s disposal to protect our neighbors from ICE’s lawlessness and public safety.
The Trump Administration is acting with reckless disregard of our laws, and we must set a statewide standard that officials cannot cooperate with a broken agency until the judicial process plays out.

When the Legislature returns from its spring recess on April 6, the Assembly and Senate will have 3 weeks to consider about 920 measures by the end of the month (and the policy committee deadlines) - 256 in the Senate and 664 in the Assembly.
As the first reanalysis data become available, I think I can say with a fairly high degree of confidence that the March 2026 heatwave will go down as the most anomalously extreme heat event ever observed at any time of year in the southwestern U.S.
