Today, I joined family, friends, colleagues, and members of the policing community to honour the life and service of Toronto Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto.
Constable Pinizzotto dedicated his life to protecting others and serving his community. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him and by those who wear the uniform.
As we remember Marc today, we also reflect on the sacrifices made by police officers every day to keep our communities safe. May we never take that service for granted.
My thoughts remain with his family, loved ones, friends, and colleagues. His service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Starting this summer, we’re increasing speed limits wherever it’s safe to do so on highways across Ontario, getting drivers where they need to go faster.
By October, close to 90 per of Ontario’s highway network will be at 110 km/hr, reflecting the speed for which our highways were designed.

The recent tragedies involving police officers across Canada are a stark reminder of the risks our frontline men and women face every day to keep our communities safe.
I support Premier Ford’s call for a national discussion on public safety and the steps needed to better protect those who serve and protect others.
We owe it to our officers, their families, and the communities they serve to ensure they have the support, resources, and protections they need to come home safely at the end of every shift.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen a horrifying increase in the number of police officers killed or wounded in the line of duty across Canada.
Today, I wrote to Premier Rob Lantz, Chair of the Council of the Federation, requesting an urgent discussion at the upcoming premiers’ meeting on how we can protect the brave women and men who keep our communities safe.

Bill C-14 includes a number of measures Ontario has long advocated for to address repeat and violent offending and strengthen public safety.
While this legislation represents progress, implementation will be critical to ensuring these reforms deliver real results. We also note that mandatory minimum penalties, one of Ontario’s longstanding recommendations, were not included, and more work remains to strengthen accountability for repeat and violent offenders.
Ontario will continue advocating for measures that support victims, strengthen public safety, and build safer communities.
