I believe artists who want to share their work with the world should get to do so without people violating their consent.

I won’t be bullied into making Cara members-only because some people think "consent isn't always valid". You don't blame victims after harming them. 2/

@pirate_ns Untrue, actually. The fact that artists' class actions helped pave the way for public awareness and discussions around copyright and AI issues is proof that legal actions are not pointless. Things are happening *because* actions were taken.

@Hentai_023 That's what we don't want to do. Private accounts is already an option everywhere else. If we introduce it, it will be because our *users* want it, not because we're forced to wall off the whole site so artists can no longer use their page to apply to jobs.

@Knightw0lf_ That's just the thing though, trying to FORCE artists into paywalling their work when we just want to share them for people to view AND also need it in order to get jobs... why can't people just respect our wishes instead of trying to violate it when we're saying no?

Cara was scraped a second time & posted to Hugging Face. Scrapers say it's legal, it shouldn't be.

The entire web can be scraped, we know, so Cara educates its users on the issues.

But what's happening now are sheer acts of violating consent, to target, to inflict pain. 1/

Artists just want a place online where platforms don't feed their work to AI. So I built Cara. But people just won't leave us alone.
