A clean destination begins with a clean community. Zimbabwe joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Cleanup Day at Rufaro Stadium in Mbare, Harare, with the Patron of Environment and Tourism, Her Excellency the First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, represented by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Hon Daniel Garwe, leading the national commemoration. The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, led by Permanent Secretary Dr Takaruza Munyanyiwa, joined the commemoration, underscoring the critical link between environmental cleanliness, sustainable waste management and Tourism competitiveness.
Clean and well-managed destinations enhance the Tourist experience, strengthen destination appeal and contribute to Zimbabwe’s positive image as a Tourism destination. Held under the theme “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities,” the event highlighted the need for collective responsibility in promoting recycling, reuse, proper waste disposal and the recovery of value from waste. As Zimbabwe advances its Vision 2030 aspirations and develops a Sustainable, Heritage-Based Tourism economy, clean communities and destinations remain fundamental to growing Domestic and International Tourism.

The 7th Inter-Ministerial Sports and Arts Festival in Gwanda has demonstrated the growing role of Sports Tourism in driving Domestic Tourism, destination visibility and local economic activity, bringing athletes, officials and supporters from Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies to the town from 11–18 September 2026. The influx generated demand across the Tourism value chain, including accommodation, hospitality, dining, retail and local experiences, creating opportunities for businesses and communities to benefit. Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa, attended the official opening presided over by Vice President Col (Rtd) Dr K. C. D. Mohadi, represented by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South Hon Albert Ngulube, reinforcing the Ministry’s focus on using sporting and cultural events to stimulate travel and spread Tourism benefits beyond traditional Tourism centres.
The festival also demonstrated the value of integrating sport, culture and heritage to create distinctive Tourism experiences. Choral Competitions and Fashion Show Night enriched the programme through liberation war songs, the National Anthem and designs showcasing the National Fabric, celebrating Zimbabwean identity and heritage. Championing the National Fabric initiative, Tourism Patron Her Excellency The First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, has helped position Zimbabwean identity as an important component of the country’s heritage proposition. Anchored by the Ilifa Lethu, Nhaka Yedu, Our Heritage campaign, the festival shows how events can promote destinations, celebrate culture and expand economic participation, supporting Domestic Tourism and Government’s devolution philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind.

Growing demand for Zimbabwe as a Tourism and business destination is translating into increased air capacity, with Fastjet Zimbabwe extending its Airbus A320 operations to support travel during the peak festive season. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the 19th edition of Sanganai/Hlanganani Dzimbahwe Tourism Expo in Masvingo, where Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Tongai Mnangagwa, standing in for Minister Hon Barbara Rwodzi, announced that A320 operations will continue until the end of October 2026 before resuming on 9 December 2026. During the December peak travel period, Fastjet will introduce double-daily Airbus A320 flights on the Harare–Johannesburg route, while strengthening connectivity between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg, further enhancing access to Zimbabwe’s key Tourism destinations.
The expanded capacity represents a significant vote of confidence in the country’s growing Tourism market and advances Government’s Whole-of-Government approach to route development, air access and seamless connectivity. Since commencing operations in Zimbabwe in 2015, Fastjet has facilitated more than four million passengers, with its network linking Harare, Victoria Falls and Bulawayo to Johannesburg and other regional destinations. As International tourist arrivals rose from about 380,820 in 2021 to 1.78 million in 2025, the additional capacity is expected to support increased tourist flows and generate wider economic benefits across hotels, lodges, restaurants, tour operators, transport providers, attractions, cultural enterprises and communities, translating improved connectivity into Tourism growth, jobs and investment.
