George Solomon — the legendary Washington Post sports editor who helped cultivate the newsroom culture that eventually inspired PTI — reflected on the Post’s decision to shutter its sports section and eliminate most of its staff.
“We lost something very, very big today… and they ought to correct it.”

Growing up reading the Post, I didn’t realize it wasn’t like this in other cities. I didn’t know how lucky we were to enjoy giants of their craft like Kornheiser, Wilbon, Boswell, Kindred & Feinstein. George Solomon, who I am lucky to now call a friend, at the helm of an unrivaled room.
Sally Jenkins and Barry Svrluga, among many, later continued the tradition that apparently ends today? It’s hard to process that notion. Everything changes, but the greatness of that newsroom isn’t something that ever becomes outdated or unnecessary.
Covering local sports for @WashPostHS these last five years has been a privilege. Our desk has put out some truly incredible content that underscores the importance of local sports journalism.
Below are some of my favorite AMS stories that I’ve read from our desk (🧵)

A special shoutout to @briannaschroer on design and Toni Sandys on photos. And to our POYs for showing off their art skills.
