Denaby Main JFC 0-1 Oughtibridge WMFC
A disappointing afternoon for the Main as they lost 1-0 in a game where neither side deserved the win but a win it was for visitors Oughtibridge WMFC. Denaby started strongly and push the away side back in the early stages, Luke Watson saw his dangerous low cross bundled away while Marcuse Edwards chased down the ball, fired in a low cross/shot from an acute angle that hit the keeper in the chest before being scrambled away. It was Edwards who then had the opening clear chance of the match, his pace got him clear and he raced to goal with only the keeper to beat but his prodded shot hit the keeper and was cleared. This woke up the visitors and they started to have more of the ball as the game evened up, Lucas Edwards and Luke Needham had efforts at goal while from a Main corner Oughtibridge broke quickly, Needham raced forward but agonisingly saw his lob over keeper AJ bounce on top of the crossbar before going behind for a goal kick. For the remainder of that first period the game ebbed and flowed and though there were one or two scrambles to clear the ball there were no serious shots for either keeper to make.
The second 45 was more of the same with both teams finding it hard to to create that clear goal scoring opportunity though Reece Dudhill certainly tried his best, picking the ball up near the edge of the penalty area he did a pirouette, weaved himself into space before unleashing a thunderbolt shot which unfortunately crashed against the join of post and bar and bounced to safety. As the game wore on with no other clear chances being created Oughtibridge took the lead, from a throw in the play turned into a goalmouth scramble and this time it was not cleared with the ball falling to Lucas Edwards who fired his shot into goal. As the game wore on with Denaby pressing forward, they fired in a couple of shots which missed the target and in chasing the game they were sometimes caught short in defence whenever Oughtibridge broke quickly but just about did enough to keep the score at 1-0. Unfortunately time ran out and the game was lost.
A few words ahead of tomorrow’s game from Knights defender, Conner Eyes:
Saturday will be a massive game for us, we need to put in the hard-working performance we have recently shown we are capable of against Staveley, FCV Grace Dieu and Dunkirk and apply that with the ruthlessness of the game we played against Sleaford at the back end of December.
It will not be an easy game, Dronfield are an organised side and always have been when I have played them previously. They have picked up some good results throughout this season and sometimes been unlucky to slip up in some matches, very similar to us in a way.
The game is at their place which gives them the Home advantage, but to the management and us as players, that doesn’t phase us.
We are going into Saturday with 3 points in mind and nothing less, I think we’re due a win following being 2-0 up against Dunkirk and letting that slip, as well as it being the same story against Staveley and conceding very late into the second half to take a point.
As always, away support will be key Saturday, so anyone getting behind us will help us succeed in closing the gap in the league.

🎄🎅 Christmas at Pinchbeck 🎄🎅
Today; First Team Manager, Lewis Thorogood and Head Coach, Mark Melson, attended the children’s ward at the Pilgrim Hospital in Boston to donate selection boxes for the children on the ward for Christmas from all the staff and players at the club.
It was our pleasure to recognise not only the hard work of the staff there but also to make the children’s Christmas on the ward Christmas the best it can be.
