In the face of this growing ecological and economic catastrophe AWP brings of message of returning power to the people. To remind them of their power, that they can recapture the institutions that have been stolen from them, that they can bring into existence new institutions that can wrest power away from real estate mafias, patwaris and appointed officials.
Since its creation in 2012, the Awami Workers Party has established itself as the only political force in Pakistan that is committed to overturning our elitist, patriarchal and unsustainable status quo.
AWP seeks to reclaim what it means to be political. To be political is to engage critically with the way our societies are organised to educate ourselves about the public good, and connect with the people around us. We believe in a politics of citizens assemblies, of genuine popular control over our resources, in the formation of workers unions, rentier associations, mohalla politics, student unions, that engage with the way our societies are organised.
We seek to wrench power away from corrupt undemocratic institutions that represent the interests of real estate developers and build counter institutions that empower ordinary people and prioritize the development of cities in a way that does not atomise our communities but fosters them, that does not encourage us to punish those who seek refuge in the city but welcome them and accommodate them.
Building on years of organizing and movement-building, the 2024 general election is an opportunity to present a genuinely pro-people progressive politics in Pakistan. The party is doing this by nominating our committed political worker, Iqbal Jahan in NA-47 who has spent years organizing for people’s economic, political and constitutional rights in working class community of Islamabad and beyond.
For anyone who believes in the politics and the ideals of justice we stand for, and to all those who have messaged to express solidarity, encouragement and hope: We need your support to make these ideas a reality.

Muhammad Iqbal Jahan is a lifetime political worker advocating for the rights of the working-class citizens of Islamabad. Originating from the small village of Kausar Fateh Khel in the Bannu district, Iqbal Jahan has actively engaged in working-class politics in Islamabad for the past two decades. He is best known for leading the ongoing struggle against oppressive eviction operations targeting informal settlements and strives to secure the fundamental right to housing for all citizens.
Since joining the Awami Workers Party in 2015, Iqbal Jahan has steadfastly supported many groups of working people including kachi abadi dwellers, porters, CDA employees, daily laborers, TNT employees, WAPDA employees, railway employees, newspaper unions, traders associations, health workers, journalists, lawyers, students, women's organizations, and movements of oppressed nations.

Alongside his pioneering leadership of class, national, and gender struggles, Iqbal Jahan has also actively spearheaded anti-extremism and anti-imperialist movements. Through the platform of the Awami Workers Party, he has played a crucial role in uniting progressive circles and leftist parties.

In the upcoming elections, Iqbal Jahan adheres to our pro-people election manifesto, focusing on critical issues such as housing for all, safe water supply, environmental protection, energy supply, equal, modern, and quality education, the better future of youth, a stable economy, the rights of workers, women, children, transgender people, senior citizens, initiatives for health, and civic reforms, along with people-friendly urban planning.

Let's elect a genuine representative of the city's workforce. Together, we can change this system because an alternative is possible!
