The time has unfortunately come to say goodbye to @__blip. πͺ¦
We've been working on this project for about 6 years, but fully stopped pushing updates a few months ago already.
It's been such a great adventure, probably the most ambitious project I've had the opportunity to work on.
Both @gaetan_dv and I are actually thankful for our genuine naivety back in 2019. Not sure we would have dived in knowing about all the challenges upfront.
Armed with what felt like sufficient knowledge in mobile gaming, scripting environments, and backend infrastructure, we decided to take a shot at going after @Roblox with a competing platform. We approached this as Roblox fans really, we thought it was brilliant. It's just that there couldn't be only one decent multiplayer UGC gaming platform option on the market. And we had ideas about how to make it more accessible on mobile, bringing some of the @Minecraft DNA too.
I'm not going to detail the whole story here.
Long story short, distribution is hard. We tried different things over time and ended up running out of money.
Even with a platform approach, seeking funding for a gaming studio has become quite complicated.
I really can't blame VCs for that. Distribution is not going to get easier, and AI is definitely a more appealing and promising space for capital deployment. I'm fully embracing that myself now with my new position at Shortcut, building tools and systems for agents.
I just wanted to post one last video of Blip, that I'll probably look back at with a lot of nostalgia in the future. π₯Ή
Last project developed without the help of AI. π
I'm extremely grateful for the talented individuals I've been given the chance to work with, the community of creators and players, and investors for their continued support.
We'll remove the app from the store and tear down servers around the end of the summer.
Couldn't compete with Roblox, but died trying.
Wishing all the best to others going down this path, I'll always be happy to discuss our experience if it can help.
I'll use this thread to post a bunch of pictures and anecdotes.

This whole level was made in @__blip with 3D model support and some design magicπ€.
I've spent around 4 hours designing this, but i am 100% love this because we never seen something that looks like this in Blip.
If you have access to the @__blip TestFlight build on iOS, you can currently get the first 2 virtual currency packs for free! (that's 960 free AI requests π)
AI generated skybox (using @Scenario_gg) + AI generated light settings in @__blip.
It's great to be able to create something like this in just a few minutes. πͺ
I'm looking for a 3D artist for a short paid project!π°
Need ~10 evergreen items for @__blip (upcoming open-source Roblox alternative).
Lightweight / low-poly with smooth textures (generated image attached for style reference)
Please share if you know someone! π
Vibe coding real-time multiplayer games on your phone with friends connected, testing changes live for feedback! π
(thanks @gaetan_dv for testing that one with me)
I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that it's now ok to build real-time multiplayer games using prompts on a phone. π
I love reading the generated commit messages, which are also created when making manual code edits. π€
