@JeremyA46925042@mercoglianos @DeptofDefense @USArmy Yeup. Less GT ships out there less engineers will be able to get the actual endorsement. Just terrible idea having those in ROS. Plus they’re relatively “new”.
@mercoglianos No need to have a new “design”. Buy proven design with parts and supply chain already available. Buying used in the market is nice but it’s a lost opportunity for US Shipyards, higher lifecycle cost, no standardation kills inefficiency.
@mercoglianos Replacing the RRF isn’t that difficult. MARAD just needs to purchase blueprints from commercial operators of CON/ROs, tankers, and Ro/Ros, and build them here in the U.S. Aim to build 51 of them to lower unit cost and set up long term production contracts.
@johnkonrad But isn’t this just the normal contracts RRF managers have to operate the ships? As far as I can tell there’s no difference from before unless I’m reading it wrong
@TittlyWinks45@mercoglianos@MSCSealift Most of the time it gets shuffled between companies as MARAD likes to spread it around. Important to me as a mariner because all three unions have MARAD contracts so it’s just go to know which are in my union. Also good to know what will happen to the LMSR that’s going ROS…
@mercoglianos@DOTMARAD Replacing RRF should have been part of the Ships Act. Easy way to get shipyards expanded if they had budget to at least build 5 a year.
@johnkonrad@brentdsadler@DOTMARAD@HungCao_VA I hope to see Anduril take a stab at shipbuilding. They built their drone from off shelf parts and I think @PalmerLuckey has the knowledge to take advantage of the shipbuilding industry.
@jansramek@CAForever Hanwa bought Philly Shipyard couple years ago and now expanding. Bring in Korea or Japan to handle how to make efficient shipyards
@mercoglianos What about also expanding for now MSP? To crew that many mariners you need a bunch of graduates now to get enough sea time to upgrade their license.
