Someone told me today that I have an overrated sense of self-importance, and it made me look back and reflect on my journey.

Just under 6 years ago, I did not have any confidence in myself. You could see the timidity and low self-esteem show through in my interactions.

Moving from that version of me to what I am now is nothing short of a miracle.

A lot can change in such a short period of time.

People trust you but first, they trust:

The confidence in your tone of voice

The carriage of your body

The space you fill

The intentionality of the words you use

The systems you have put in place to make sure balls aren't dropping

The ambition and the hunger they see.

My conspiracy theory (which is no conspiracy theory at all) is that Nigerians are being burdened with low quality problems by design. That’s the structure. This is how things are to be.

It may be an advice that has come late for most of us because most a lot of our parents gave us everything including what they didn’t have.

So they didn’t have savings, investments and knowledge of multiplying the little they had.

It only makes sense that we take care of them unconditionally.

However, going forward, we must do it differently. While we give our all to our kids, we must create our own economy, make savings and investing a huge part of our financial lives and prepare for the future.

When our kids grow up, we should aim to leave inheritances for them and their kids and they shouldn’t have to be burdened from their very first job about sharing their earnings with us.

That way, we break the loop, both we and our kids can begin to build generational wealth.

At some point in your career, work with large, well-structured organisations.
