Emmanuel Iren, founder of Celebration Church International (CCI), shows he really has a photographic memory
He was able to accurately describe events that happened on his 3rd birthday, uncles that promised gifts that never fulfilled, his 5th birthday & other childhood memories.
I'm currently working on the 3rd Issue of my State of DeFi Lending on Ethereum series and something worth knowing came up during drafting.
Aave V3's nominal supply fell $2.02B in June, from $18.61B at May 31 to $16.59B at June 30. On the surface that looks like $2B of depositors exiting the protocol.
But the opposite actually happened. At constant prices, Aave V3 added $845 million of net deposits in June, the largest single-month protocol inflow in the captured series.
The $2.87B gap between the two readings is mark-to-market on collateral. weETH fell from $2,193.22 to $1,731.73 across the month, a 21% drop per token. Spot ETH fell 21.25%. rsETH, ezETH, osETH all fell 20-21%. Depositors held the same tokens; those tokens are just worth less USD now.
Add SparkLend's $415 million and smaller positives across four other protocols, and the sector added $1.33 billion in aggregate at constant prices.
Which reading is "right" depends on what question you're asking. If you're valuing a position today, mark-to-market is correct. If you're trying to understand depositor behavior, constant-price is correct.
Both are true simultaneously, from their own definitions. Miss one and you miss half the story.
Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, co-founder of Flutterwave, explains how he takes Execution Risks for Businesses.
He used an analogy of a billion dollar cheque in a drawer and the only way to cash the cheque is in a Bank in the US.
The hardest part of a Business is someone doing all it takes to go to the bank to cash them cheque.
And that is what he does.
140+ companies just launched a stablecoin built to undercut Circle's USDC and Tether's USDT.
Open USD (OUSD) lets businesses mint and redeem for free, then pays them the interest earned on the reserves. The same income Circle and Tether keep for themselves.
Backers include Visa, Mastercard, Stripe and BlackRock. Circle's stock fell 17% the same day.
OUSD has Visa, Mastercard and BlackRock behind it. But the liquidity in African corridors is mostly USDT, and OUSD is launching on Solana.
Where do you build: where the money already is, or where the big names are headed?
Meta just bought CRED, India's app for payments & rewards, for $900M, while also taking the founder to run WhatsApp.
CRED is an app that turned bill payment into a gamified rewards system for the elites in India.
Does an app like CRED have a market in Africa?

If banks can enforce compliance on public chains, the need for private/permissioned bank chains starts to become unnecessary, and the public network becomes the default rail for institutional finance.

UBS, the largest Swiss bank, is currently testing bank-level compliance on Ethereum's network, without changing to a private network.
Before transactions goes on-chain, UBS runs it through its own compliance checks. Transaction screening happens just before money moves on-chain.
