Emma of Normandy did not survive the 11th Century by being soft.....

In 1002, she became Queen of England when she married Æthelred the Unready, a king whose realm was already cracking under the pressure of Viking invasion. She was young, foreign, and useful — a Norman bride brought into England to strengthen a kingdom in danger.

Then that kingdom fell.

Æthelred was driven into exile. The Danish conquest tore through England. Emma fled, returned, became a widow, and watched the political world around her rearrange itself with brutal speed.

Then she did something extraordinary.

In 1017, Emma married Cnut the Great — the Danish king who had taken England after the collapse of her first husband’s line. The son of the conqueror became her second husband. And Emma became Queen of England again.

It was not romance. It was power.

Cnut needed legitimacy. Emma had it. She connected him to England’s old royal house, to Normandy, and to the children whose bloodlines still mattered. In return, she was not pushed aside as a defeated queen. She stepped back onto the throne beside the man who represented the new order.

Her life became a bridge between enemies: Anglo-Saxon, Danish, and Norman. She was wife to two kings and mother to two more, Edward the Confessor and Harthacnut.

But Emma’s greatest act of survival may have come after the wars, marriages, and betrayals. She helped shape the story itself. The Encomium Emmae Reginae, written in her honor, presented her not as a pawn passed between kings, but as the central woman through whom royal legitimacy flowed.

Emma understood something many rulers did not: power is not only held in armies. It is held in memory.

She was not simply Queen of England twice.

She was the woman two rival dynasties needed in order to look legitimate.

We need to face reality when it comes to the perpetrators of crime and the situations they take advantage of. Rarely that has been backlash to trans as social deviation opt amongst others. Classical but dated. Now perps riot again.

Yesterday, I questioned the Chair of the EHRC about the new Code of Practice, and the harm it poses to trans people and others who do not conform to gender stereotypes.

The Code suggests employees of a business or a service should enforce restrictions based on evidence such as “the individual’s physique or physical appearance, behaviour or concerns raised by other service users.” When asked to specify what these would be, the Chair couldn't answer and instead spoke about “common sense”.

The truth is that people would be relying on gender stereotypes, which are harmful not only for trans people but for others as well.

Remembering during my middle school stint first proper art lesson was edu/basketball. Big team, gold and purple. Was stumped. Asked a few premise Q's and drew a American school table.
