Meet Samuel Groucott, a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate! Samuel's 4th year dissertation involved studying raindrop impact erosion on wind turbine blade edges, this required use of our scanning electron microscope.
At the AMRL, we not only engage with industry we also assist with student led projects! Ailie’s master group project focused on developing ultrasonic fatigue testing procedures using our Shimdazu USF-2000A. Due to continued COVID-19 restrictions, the AMRL helped conduct testing.

Dr Maider Olasolo is our Experimental Officer, in charge of all practical elements conducted at the AMRL. Maider has a PhD in Materials Science and Metallurgy and is skilled in advanced techniques such as microstructural characterisation, chemical analysis and mechanical testing.
Dr Tiziana Marrocco is our Knowledge Exchange Manager. She is in charge of engagement with external stakeholders in industry and academia. Tiziana’s PhD in Surface Engineering places her in a position of strong technical knowledge to provide assistance in research.
Dr Fiona Sillars is our Senior Knowledge Exchange Manager, with a PhD in Materials for Energy Storage, she has been providing her expertise since 2012. Fiona focuses on customer interface and technical solutions for testing and ongoing programmes of work.
