Yesterday, I met with my provincial, and territorial counterparts responsible for Internal Trade.

We advanced work to build one Canadian economy, in line with direction First Ministers gave following their last meeting in January 2026.

This will enable us to speed up housing construction, get the workers we need to build major projects, and give Canadian consumers more choice. 

Together, we agreed to: 

✔️Implement direct-to-consumer sales of beer, wine, and spirits across 11 provinces and territories by May 2026;

✔️Strengthen labour mobility provisions in the Canadian Free Trade Agreement by June 2026;

✔️Harmonize priority occupational health and safety training requirements in the construction sector by fall 2026;

✔️Expand the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement to services by the end of 2026;

✔️Streamline approvals of new building materials and prefabricated housing by the end of 2026;

✔️Implement credential recognition for tradespersons by spring 2027; and

✔️Launch the new Domestic Trade Commissioners Network to help Canadian businesses do more business with each other.
