#Miami has broken 22 daily heat index records in the past 35 days. Contributing to those are 9 new record high temperatures and 8 new record high dewpoints. Warmer air can hold more moisture, and it certainly has been! https://t.co/7muPgS5u3s
1pm in #Miami on Tuesday: 108.3°F heat index. That's a new record for the day, the 7th consecutive day with a record-breaking heat index, the record 31st consecutive day over 100°, and the record 3rd consecutive day over 108°. Lovely. 😮💨

Using the NOAA ERSSTv5 monthly SST dataset (https://t.co/wRVKpB8MNv), here are the monthly averages for the North Atlantic from 1854-2023. The June 2023 value is projected based on the first 25 days of the month. Past years are shown in red, lightest=oldest, darkest=newest. [1/2]
Here's a look at the evolution of sea surface temperature anomalies over the past couple of weeks in the tropical Atlantic. The growing patches of +4°C anomalies are just incredible. Locations northwest of Cabo Verde that would typically be around 24°C now are at about 28°C!
Also, a big shoutout to all the clinical coordinators and research assistants that helped me collect and analyze the data and provide feedback. Wouldn’t be possible without you. Thank you. 🧠🙌🏼@_Daniel_Samano ,@emilypswafford , Danielle Bass, Pardis Ghamasaee.
Some potentially big temperature swings coming up in the #Miami area during #Christmas week: lows in the mid-40s on the 24th (avg low is 63°) and then perhaps record-breaking highs in the upper 80s on the 27th (avg high is 77°)? Still pretty far out to look at details, but...
A complicated topic: hurricanes and people with spinal cord injuries. I attended a productive interdisciplinary meeting for which I was asked to create a realistic and impactful hurricane scenario for Miami. I created Ian 2.0: same storm, landfall just 125 miles further south.
Congratulations @AAlkhachroum for obtaining the Best Scientific Abstract Award #NCS2022@MiamiNeurocrit@MiamiNeuroRes
The whole NCC and Clinical research teams are proud of you!
So fortunate to be part of this initiative. A true example of a transdisciplinary approach, developing a wonderful team and friends, focused on SCI, describing the interconnection between climate and health.
