Mercenaries may win a few battles, but never the war. They will always lack the ideological drive, the passion for an ideal. They fight only for gold or silver and a reputation falsely earned through wickedness and the blood of the innocent. Conscientious citizens, whether soldiers or civilians, fight for fundamental ideas that shape the existence of every individual, life in society and the collective survival of a nation; in this case, freedom, dignity, justice, human brotherhood and the patriotic ideal. I know of no mercenaries who have improved people’s lives or contributed to the progress of a society’s history, let alone that of humanity. This is true in the military context as well as in the political sphere. One must be able to identify the players in order to expose the falsehoods.
