Forget openai's servers, humans who receive your communication can publish them to the open internet or on to a billboard in Times Square.

This is the most confidently incorrect and clueless take I have ever seen. chat.db has been accessible on macOS for years, and ChatGPT did not kill "end to end encryption." Any app, agent, or person with the appropriate access to your Mac has been able to read your messages after they reach your device. I genuinely don't understand where this level of incompetence comes from. Do you guys even do a little bit of research before posting takes like this online?

You opening Messages and reading your messages is fundamentally the same thing as you asking the ChatGPT app to access and read your messages. The messages have already reached the endpoint and been decrypted.

And if your argument is:

"You’ll never know if the person you’re texting has been stupid and irresponsible enough to add this silent monitoring bot to your conversation."

That might actually be the lowest IQ take here. You have never known, and can never know, what the person on the other side of an iMessage conversation will or won't do with your messages. They can screenshot them, copy them, forward them, paste them into ChatGPT, or give their entire Mac to someone else.

ChatGPT creating a connector that lets the user access data already available on their own Mac has absolutely nothing to do with breaking end to end encryption.

E2EE protects the message in transit. It does not protect you from the person you sent the message to.

You already do. It's how your payment processes. They using plaids Link API, and it's functionally no different than uploading your statement via csv file; your statement has no PII or account information on it.

It can also be wildly helpful when combined with a longer running research task. It found 3 services that I am paying for twice, like amazon prime has an insane amount of stuff that I am paying for elsewhere unnessarily; basically no one in the modern world needs to pay for AAA roadside stuff because it almost surely comes with your visa, phone plan, costco membership, or visa card.

But it's so individually different for every person, and requires so many hours of research, that it's wildly helpful to have all of this automated to you.

It's saved me $120 a month (on average when breaking down the annualized stuff).

Claude Desktop has had this same plugin for 6 months. OpenClaw, Hermes agents, this isn't new or specific to iMessage, telegram, whatsapp, or signal.
e2e encryption is real and doesn't change; also true, and always has been, the receivers of your communication can do whatever they want with it, once they receive it.
