only a demand: Show me who you are.
Her next strike came even faster fluid, unpredictable, yet graceful, like a surgeon’s incision.
“Show me again,” Unohana commanded, voice calm yet absolute. “Show me that your will to protect burns brighter than your fear of being broken.”
Unohana’s eyes half-lidded, the faintest hint of satisfaction glimmering beneath her calm expression. She could feel it the shift. That flicker in Nari’s spirit that finally stopped trembling and began to burn.
“this is not combat. This is communion. Between your fear… and your strength.”
Without warning, she moved.
The strike came fast and clean—a blur of motion, the stick cutting through the air toward Nari’s shoulder with surgical accuracy. There was no malice in it, no aggression
Unohana watched closely as Nari swung again. The rhythm of her strikes had changed less hesitation, more purpose. The air began to hum faintly with each arc of the stick, her movements no longer entirely guided by fear but by intent.
Unohana raised her stick once more and pointed it toward Nari’s chest, steady and unwavering.
“So I will push you further. Until your body, mind, and spirit strike as one. Only then will you begin to understand what it truly means to wield yourself.”
Unohana’s gaze narrowed, following the arc of Nari’s swing. The wood cut through the air, but her form betrayed her. Shoulders too tense. Feet uneven. Grip wavering.
She let the sound of the strike linger in the silence before speaking, her voice smooth yet edged with steel.
So the girl shifted into a position that was a bit open and sloppy, her expression showing her nervousness along with the desire to learn.
“uh.. Yes Ma’am!”
The sound of her kendo stick cutting through the air was sharp and clean.
“That is how it should look. Simple. Efficient. Every inch of your body aligned with your will.”
Her eyes, calm yet piercing, returned to Nari.
