People below 16 most definitely can go without social media platforms.
I obviously don't agree with Youtube, but otherwise it's Ok.
As with anything, once you give access, it's hard to take it away. However action is better than inaction.
Communication will not be lost,
haven't yet been manipulated or sucked in, and thus should be able to manage Ok and grow up outside of social media.
The fear of course is the inevitable desire to have workarounds which shows some of the damage that has been caused permanently. I will always say action is better
Sometimes when there is a risk the right action needs to be taken even if not everyone who uses the platforms ends up in dangerous situations. It would be great to see young people not wasting time scrolling on TikTok or using shithole platforms like Snapchat.
I think it's important for people to realise where this has come from.
It's a fairly recent promise, so he's done this quite quickly.
It's from campaigning, mainly from bereaved families, it has no relation to digital ID.
I am in favour of it. A lot of the negatives I've seen
We are banning social media access for under 16s.
These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life.
I just canโt let that go on anymore. So weโre giving children their childhoods back.
From my experience, I could've easily lived without these platforms at those ages. I don't see why anyone else couldn't. It's a bit like smoking to me: now you've given it to people, people are reluctant for it to be taken away.
