As a person who has been surviving under an oppressing occupation their entire life, I urge anyone who’s never experienced it to sincerely shut the f*ck up.

I believe all injustices are equally immoral: israel has been murdering Palestinians for over 76 years, but Assads’ government has also been oppressing Syrians for over 50 years.
If I speak against one injustice it does not mean I do not condemn the other.

Syrians have the right to decide their future and i believe the oppressed will -and should- always stand with the oppressed.

Honestly, most of the people I have spoken to who have reservations have referenced things like “America/Israel backing them” and stringing together events and random quotes to push that narrative as matter of fact when it is not. This is even coming from well-meaning individuals, and it stems from an out-of-touch understanding that marginalizes the on-the-ground experiences of Syrians impacted by Assad’s brutality and from being heedless to God’s control and power.

To your point, of course we shouldn’t let our guard down. Egypt and Libya are not even distant memories yet and we should learn from them. I think directly pointing to Allah’s control solves both issues: the hopelessness of the cynic and the negligence of the naive.

I believe that one of the key reasons that some Muslims are finding it difficult to support the people of Syria is due to a deep rooted inferiority complex that our ummah cannot achieve any gains unless Israel & America allow it. Stop believing these criminals have divine power.
