Barack and I were so honored to have @AkunyiliCrosby create our portrait for the Obama Presidential Center. Her artistic brilliance shines through — and the way she infused such life and joy into the piece is truly extraordinary. We love it, and we think everyone who visits the Center will too!
A year ago, I became a mum of two. 👶🏽👦🏽💙
.
Things I did differently with baby #2:
🏥 Chose an elective C-section from booking after having an emergency C-section with my first.
🍲 Meal-prepped weeks in advance.
🧠 Mentally prepared for recovery, sleep deprivation, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with a newborn.
I was also prepared for spending nights alone in hospital after my C-section, a reality that caught me by surprise the first time and left me in tears.
💇🏽♀️ Got my hair braided before delivery (postpartum Leah was very grateful 😭).
🍼 Packed ready-made formula because my priority was a well-fed baby.
🤱🏽 Took a more flexible approach to feeding, whether breastmilk, formula, or a combination of both.
🤍 Accepted help sooner.
🍛 Said yes to friends bringing cooked meals and family dropping off food and essentials.
🥘 Benefited from sisters-in-law who stocked our freezer with meals that lasted for weeks.
✨ Took a longer maternity leave and gave myself permission to fully enjoy the season.
🌸 Lowered my expectations and gave myself a lot more grace.
.
One year later, I still don’t have everything figured out.
🌱 But I’m wiser.
💪🏽 More confident.
🤍 And a lot kinder to myself.
To every mum preparing for baby #2:
🌷 Trust yourself.
🌷 You’ve done hard things before.
🌷 You can do them again.
Second time mums, what’s one thing you did differently the second time around? 👇🏽💙
“I’m the husband of the community high school principal that was k*dnapped. My governor, we thank you. We can’t be grateful enough because we know the efforts you have been making since all this happened. What I want to say is, you will not be tired of this matter.
All our people in the custody of kdnappers, we are begging you—please don’t be tired. Both adults and children. It’s my wife they are using for their videos, the videos they share everywhere. It is very disheartening and dpr€ssing. I know you can do it.” He proceeds to kneel down to beg the governor.
~ Husband of kdnapped Oyo school principal, as he knelt down to beg the governor to help free his wife and others from kdnappers. The governor can also be seen comforting him after he became emotional.
