New: Charlotte County Deputy Retires After Shooting That Killed Man in Deep Creek

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL — Deputy First Class Timothy Poole, a 22-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, submitted his retirement, two weeks after he shot and killed 50-year-old Daniel Scott Burch during a confrontation in the Saxony Circle condo complex in Deep Creek.

Earlier that morning, deputies responded to multiple calls at the complex—first a criminal mischief complaint against Burch, then later a reported physical assault at the Deep Creek Golf Club.

When officers arrived, body-cam footage shows a confrontation in which Poole fired at Burch, who later died at the hospital.

The sheriff has stated that Poole’s retirement does not affect the ongoing investigation.

New: Milwaukee Police Release Video of Off-Duty Officer Attacked, Opening Fire in Self-Defense

Police released dashcam footage showing an off-duty Milwaukee officer being pistol-whipped by 33-year-old Elijah Wilks before the officer opened fire in self-defense.

The altercation began after a minor traffic crash, escalating when Wilks struck the officer in the head with a handgun.

The officer, a 20-year veteran of the department, fired several rounds, fatally wounding Wilks.

The West Allis Police Department is leading the investigation under standards for officer-involved shootings.

Wilks’s family has acknowledged he engaged in a struggle before being shot.
