Director of Education at the Alberta SPCA. Tweeting about animal welfare, humane education, empathy and, of course, cats. BEd., MSc. Animal Welfare (she/her)
Lots of problems with illegal exotic pet trade.
Welfare and infectious dzs get most of the attention but venomous reptiles pose other threats.
You can give a venomous animal a name (Winston, here) but that doesn't make them companions or safe.

It's berry season. Bear encounters are likely. Berry bushes border trails, roads and campgrounds. Black and grizzly bears are feeding on berries right now. Make lots of noise while on the trails!
If you see a bear, stay calm, back away slowly and leave the area. Never run.
