honestly, this is a fun one because i don't think sukuna is someone who dislikes animals. i think he simply views them the same way he views everything else: by instinct, strength, usefulness, and whether they're worth acknowledging. he's not the type to baby them or project human emotions onto them.

my take would be something like this.

i actually think sukuna would prefer animals over most people. animals don't lie. they don't flatter him, don't beg for approval, don't pretend to be something they're not. a wolf bares its teeth because it wants to. a hawk kills because it's hungry. there's an honesty to them he'd probably appreciate.

would he go out of his way to own a pet? not intentionally. he's not the type to wake up one morning and think, "i want a companion." if an animal ends up around him, it's because it chose to stay or simply refused to leave. ironically, i think that makes it more likely.

a large dog

not some pampered lap dog. something that could survive in the wild, a japanese wolf if they still existed, or a massive akita. he wouldn't train it with treats. the dog learns because it watches him. if it listens, good. if it doesn't, that's its own problem. oddly enough, i think it'd become incredibly obedient simply because animals understand confidence better than humans do. sukuna never hesitates. there's no uncertainty in him, and animals respond to that.

would he pet it? ...yes. not often. you're walking beside him and one of his hands just absentmindedly scratches behind the dog's ears while he's talking about something completely unrelated. he doesn't even look down.

birds

ravens. crows. hawks. not because they're edgy, because they're intelligent. he'd probably toss scraps into the courtyard and within weeks have half the local crows following him around. he'd never admit he recognizes individual birds. meanwhile he's muttering,

"you're the loud one."

to the exact same crow every morning.

cats

this one surprises people, but i don't think he'd dislike cats at all. cats don't obey. they coexist. a cat walking across his lap while everyone else is terrified to approach him? entirely believable. he'd look at it for half a second before continuing whatever he was doing. if it scratched him...

"...bold."

that's about the extent of his reaction.

horses

probably the animal he'd respect the most. a warhorse isn't a pet. it's a partner in battle. he'd absolutely know how to care for one because keeping a horse healthy directly affects warfare. brushing it, checking its legs, cleaning wounds. none of that is "soft." it's maintenance. respecting your weapon includes respecting the animal carrying you into battle.

would he actually care if one got hurt?

more than he'd ever admit. not in a crying, emotional way. he'd quietly stitch up a wound, remove an arrow, set a broken leg if possible, then grumble something like,

"try dying after you've become useful again."

it sounds harsh... yet he spent an hour making sure the animal survived.

the funniest part? i think he'd be way gentler with animals than with people. animals don't understand insults or sarcasm. they understand actions. so if a frightened dog is shaking, sukuna isn't going to yell at it for being scared. that's pointless. he'd crouch, let it smell him, maybe scratch under its chin once, and that's enough.

humans get mocked because they can understand the mockery. animals can't. there's nothing to gain from intimidating a creature that's acting exactly as nature intended.

so i could absolutely picture someone walking into the courtyard expecting the king of curses, only to find him sitting under a tree with three crows on his shoulders, a giant dog asleep against one of his legs, and him acting like none of this is unusual.

if anyone points it out, he'd probably just glance over and say,

"what? they have better manners than most of you."

which, in his mind, is a completely factual observation.

people forget that sukuna is genuinely terrifying, and so is his cursed technique. the slashes are invisible. the anime lets you see them so the audience can follow what’s happening, but the people actually fighting him can’t.

imagine standing there one second, then your arm is simply gone. no warning, no flash, no sound. just the sudden weight of blood pouring from a shoulder that should still have a limb attached to it. imagine sitting beside someone only to watch their body split cleanly in half without understanding what happened. organs spill onto the ground as they stare down in shock, still trying to scream for help while blood spreads beneath them faster than their mind can process that they’re already dying.

and then there’s sukuna himself. he isn’t horrified by any of it. he isn’t even indifferent. he’s laughing. grinning at you with those unhinged eyes, amused by the panic on your face as you desperately try to understand an attack you can’t even perceive, knowing you’re probably next. honestly, i have no idea how those teenagers found the courage to fight that motherfucker.
