It’s the final days of the Neil Armstrong 5th grade Pirate Toy Fund Donations! If you are able, please contribute to this great cause for children in the hospital and in need by 11/18. #GCcares#ArmstrongStars#piratetoyfund
pausing before you respond is powerful because it gives you a chance to think about who you want to be in the moment, instead of letting your intrusive thoughts and gut reactions make that decision for you
I prefer Expectations instead of Rules. Expectations tell what to do (be on time). Rules tell what not to do (don’t be late). Expectations should be specific & tied to values. Values tell why the expectation exists. What are ur classroom values?

There are no “behavior problem” children in school. Eliminate this phrase. Behaviors are never the problem. They are always solutions kids pick to their problems. Focus on what’s driving the behavior to find the solution for it.

CONGRATS to all of our retiring Spartans, including these three members of our GC leadership team! Mrs. Damelio, Mr. Hens and Mrs. McGary have over 60 years of service at Gates Chili between them! Thank you for everything you do for our students and staff! #GCPride#GCCares
A few basic principles of great classroom management:
1. Tell kids what you need, & ask what they need from you.
2. Differentiate based on individuals.
3. Listen to thoughts & feelings.
4. Use humor.
5. Offer choices.

Our STARS SHINE! We raised $3,912 for the Ugandan Water Project. The initial goal was $1,800 but our community came together for such a good cause and more than doubled the goal. #GCcares#ArmstrongStars
Don’t expect most students to let go of an old behavior until they learn, practice, & integrate something new. This takes time, and while the student is learning a new behavior, prepare for the ups and downs. There most likely won’t be a straight path to success. #thatonekid
Consider donating to a great cause. Our 5th graders have motivated our entire school community to learn about the Ugandan Water Project! https://t.co/DY8r2csVGR…

@NeilArmstrongES 5th Grade Stars engaging in an authentic experience integrating ELA, Science, and Social Studies to support the Ugandan Water Project! Wait until you see what they are planning...Learning with an impact beyond the classroom!
When kids struggle with reading or math, we provide more support and practice. When they struggle with behavior, we often do the opposite. Imagine if we gave kids detention for poor ELA performance. Anyone think that would help? Me either.
