Everyone’s cheering “Canada still gets 50%” on the Gordie Howe bridge. That’s not the win it sounds like.

The original 2012 deal was Canada and Michigan, not Canada and the US federal government. Canada paid the $6.6B and would only started splitting toll revenue with Michigan after decades of recoupment.

Trump blew that up in February, threatened to block the bridge from opening unless Washington got a cut. Now the US federal government gets 50% of toll revenue starting immediately, plus veto power over any toll increase above 10%.

Why now? Matthew Moroun, owner of the competing Ambassador Bridge, donated $1 million to a Trump-aligned super PAC in January. Three weeks later he met with Commerce Secretary Lutnick. Hours after that meeting, Trump threatened to block Gordie Howe.

Canada financed this bridge alone. We didn’t need a renegotiation. Trump manufactured a crisis to cut himself in.

This needs to be called what it is; EXTORTION!!

Earlier today, an individual brought an unexploded WW2 grenade to the #OttawaOPP Detachment for disposal. The #OPP would like to remind the public that if you find such items, please do not transport them to your local police station. This could obviously prove extremely dangerous to the person bringing the item and others around. If you find an unexploded ordinance, leave it where it is and contact your local police. The police will arrange for their Explosives Disposal Unit to attend to safely discard the item.

Plus tôt aujourd'hui, une personne a apporté une grenade non explosée datant de la Seconde Guerre mondiale au détachement de la Police provinciale de l'Ontario (OPP) d'Ottawa pour qu'elle soit neutralisée. La OPP tient à rappeler au public que, si vous découvrez de tels objets, vous ne devez pas les transporter jusqu'au poste de police le plus proche. Une telle initiative pourrait évidemment s'avérer extrêmement dangereuse, tant pour la personne qui transporte l'objet que pour son entourage. Si vous trouvez un engin explosif non explosé, laissez-le sur place et contactez le service de police local. La police fera alors appel à son unité de neutralisation des explosifs pour procéder à l'élimination sécuritaire de l'objet.

A white co-worker at my old job told me that she didn't believe racism was as big of a deal as ppl made it out to be until she started dating a black man.

They saw a woman getting beat by a man on the street and called the cops. Her boyfriend told her they should leave because when the cops arrive they will think HE is the suspect. She thought he was being paranoid about racism and waived off his concern.

The police pulled up quickly and drew their weapons on him immediately. She had to jump in front of him and beg the police not to shoot and told them the man beating the woman is the WHITE guy a hundred feet away from them.

She broke down crying when she told me this and said she never felt so ignorant in her life and didn't know how she went 40+ years as a parent whose kids had several black friends who she would always invite over but recognized she still never understood the racial reality they faced until that moment.

She said it caused a crisis inside of her and she had to ask herself some very hard questions for a while but came out on the other side more educated and understanding.
