A federal appeals court ruled that Seattle street preacher Matthew Meinecke cannot be arrested simply for sharing the Gospel, even if people are offended by it.
The Ninth Circuit was clear: lawful speech doesn’t become illegal because someone reacts negatively. Police must protect public safety without silencing constitutionally protected speech.
Meinecke had been arrested at public events in 2022 for peacefully preaching. A lower court denied him protection, but the appeals court reversed the decision.
