Sport coaches and parents love “sport specific” training because it eye tests true enough that it might actually work.
Athletes love it because that 3lbs of band tension means they don’t actually have to put in real work.
Strength coaches hate it because they understand the lack of transfer and the waste of precious time and energy resources.
The College Football Playoffs aren’t broken….
Y’all are just watching the wrong divisions. 🤷
FCS, DII, DIII & NAIA are year in and year out putting on a show. 🗣️🔥
Yelling and screaming really loudly, while it may have intent behind it, is not in fact coaching
Coaching = communicating
Coaching = learning
Coaching = understanding
Coaching = adjusting
Coaching = adapting
Coaching ≠ yelling and screaming
I've worked my entire career building sport science & high performance models from the ground up.
One lesson? REAL Leadership, not tech or titles, drives lasting change. Those within NCAA programs, here’s what to look for in your next hire.👇

The sooner you understand that slow cooking athletes is not about delaying progress but about prioritizing movement quality over chasing numbers, the sooner young athletes will start seeing improvements that carry over and last long term.
Patriots WR K.J. Osborn has been named the Week 2 NFLPA Community MVP for giving out new shoes, school supplies and gear to 50 kids during his “Kicks For Kids” event at a Boys & Girls Club in Massachusetts.
People perform best when they:
-enjoy what they do
-feel secure in the environment
-they can make progress
-Feel they belong
-are doing meaningful work
Nowhere in that list is excessive control, micromanaged, being motivated with fear.
In other words, to lead, be a decent human
“I never wanted to be the dinosaur. Although I’m dinosaur like” - Coach Mike Tomlin on his evolution & Growth.
Coach T made a decision that he wouldn’t resist change. Except one instance it seems.. his stardom! He has now become a celebrity. He’s no longer that ball coach that walked into the 2006 @steelers’ locker room with the @IAmSteveHarvey lining. It’s strange to him though. He’s just doing what he’s always done, yet the perception of him is different. Even in feeling the change he doesn’t have to embrace it. In fact, He says he runs from it.

How to build a solid S&C program:
1) Get results. Strength + athletic KPIs need to improve.
2) Firm, fair and positive coaching. Athletes need accountability/support. They don’t need an adult bully.
3) Make it the most fun / energetic place on campus. (Music/swag/media etc..)
If you are an athletic director, treat your strength and conditioning dept like you do athletic training. Hire people and let them do their job. Coaches don’t walk in the athletic training room and dictate treatments. Why do they get to try to dictate to strength and conditioning
I still don’t understand why some sports train so early in the morning.
Surprise, surprise - early morning training is associated with poorer sleep quality & shorter sleep duration in student-athletes.
Want to lead better? Forget the performative junk.
Treat people like adults:
Empower and teach them how to do their job.
Trust them to do it.
When they make mistakes, teach and help them grow. Be honest & forthright.
Be clear on roles, expectations, direction, & vision.
