@SchizoLLC Extracting the lowest-quality housing stock in the developed world at the highest prices in America from boomer landowners with second homes in Marin, every year, for decades
@daniel_w_owens Comparing SF to other municipalities on a $/service basis is confounded, public and private compensation is burdened by housing costs that you're well aware of. Need to find bloat on an FTE/service basis but that's harder to do so we never see tweets about it
@T0dgerWaters@barakgila@PippengerHarlo Your question isn't relevant to San Francisco, the requirements are very generous. It's never been easier to look this stuff up: https://t.co/ryrEBg6HG2
@livgorton What of slave owners who afforded moral status and grew their holdings? Were they operating from a place of deep humility? Does history applaud them
@guptaso2@cis_female Personally I don't care for libraries. But the DOGE-caliber analysis all over this thread is duping well-intentioned people into wasting precious tweets on the wrong issue, which I cannot abide
@guptaso2@cis_female Yes, it is 6x. Chicago metro's median home price is almost exactly 1/6 that of the Bay Area. Other goods and services can be nonlinear in this, but not when they're 60% labor (like libraries)
@cis_female@NathanpmYoung@nonmayorpete@ChainZenit I'm glad you listed these numbers because it shows that you're just measuring regional cost of living, not relative service efficiency. Many SFans willingly pay more for groceries, transport because labor inputs are expensive per unit, no reason to believe libraries are special

@BonesawMD This is observation bias. The ideas big enough to code by hand weren't waiting for coding assistants. We're getting the long tail of small use cases that are not even worth publicizing but are still narrowly useful
