Live Nation has avoided a breakup with Ticketmaster after reaching a settlement with the Justice Department in its antitrust lawsuit.
The company has agreed to pay $280 million in civil penalties to participating states and will face new restrictions on exclusive ticketing contracts, allowing venues more freedom to work with rival ticketing companies (like SeatGeek and StubHub).
States can still reject the settlement and pursue their own lawsuits against the company.
If you’re negotiating a deal with a label or distro, and your manager has taken the lead on your behalf, ask everyone, both your manager and the representative from the company you’re in conversation with, to copy you on email when they send over deal points.
