It will cost £16.3bn to get all Primary and Secondary schools in the UK to Net Zero by 2030.

At the rate of spending set by the previous government (£221m / yr), the DfE will take 81 years to decarbonise the school estate.

There is a massive funding gap!

While this is a crucial step forward, the government missed an opportunity to embed climate education across all subjects and key stages, reflecting the reality that every career and life will be shaped by the climate and ecological crises in the years to come.

These are changes I sought to bring about through the Climate and Education Bill I previously tabled, and will continue to push for.

This week, the government announced plans to more strongly integrate climate and sustainability education into England’s school curriculum.

This is a big win for activists, including @_TeachtheFuture , the Youth Shadow Panel, and @sosukcharity, who have worked tirelessly for this change.

Most of those against the idea argued that tackling climate change should be more of a priority.

However, many pointed out that extreme weather conditions are here to stay and so it's important we learn how to stay safe during them.
