Main themes of Jalen Duren's presser:
-He was very upset about some of the rumors that were out there, and wanted to dispel them
-Mentioned multiple times he's aware of how poorly he played in the playoffs and that he spent all summer working on how to make sure that never happens agan
-The main theme for everyone here: Seemed to be most upset (directly said the media and insiders) towards the talk that he wanted out of Detroit or that he didn't want to be here. Made it a point to talk about how this is all he knows, the city has embraced him, he's embraced this city, and this is where he wants to retire.
One specific moment I thought fans would have loved to hear was when he asked the fanbase to "believe in me" and said how much he believes in Detroit. He was incredibly authentic and didn't sugarcoat anything.
-Mentioned a few times that no one wanted it to last this long, but he understands now that Trajan and the org have a job to do just like his agent does. Talked about how that was something he had to grow and learn, and that him learning and understanding the business side is a silver lining of it taking so long.
-One aspect I should've pushed on is he mentioned very early that Detroit is his home, this is where he lives and stays--that felt like a shot at the reports that he had not been in the city all summer.
Overall, I thought he did a fantastic job of understanding the situation, knowing what he needed to say and address, and did so emphatically and authentically.
Pistons will be a top 6 seed. Perk has lost his mind. The Pistons will do well again in the regular season because of their defense and transition. Playoff ceiling can be argued, but they’re a lock for the playoffs. #detroitbasketball
Kendrick Perkins on the Pistons:
"I believe that they're gonna fall off like no limit, to be honest with you. I don't believe that they have enough offensive firepower to be in that top 6 seed in the Eastern Conference. I'm not saying that they're not gonna make the playoffs, but it'll be through the play in tournament"
@riger1984 True. But things were reported last night the Duren was not coming back to Detroit no matter because of the state of things between him and the FO. There has been a ton of “reporting” and lots of it has been false.
3 top 50-60 players for 67% of the cap is quite intriguing. People will keep pointing to shooting and shot creation as faults or areas to address but man that’s a pretty good place to start considering the age of those players.
Getting Ausar at the number they did, and getting JD at his number (I know many think was an overpay) was below not only the max the Pistons could give him but they got him at a lower number than the max any other team could give him.
Both of that combined puts you in good spot
I’m curious as to how sure you are the Gores actually stepped in and guaranteed this? Is there any proof of this conversation happening with this exact wording?
Trajan Langdon upped the offer and removed certain clauses?
Tom Gores stepped in and promised a positive Pistons experience?
Detroit bent over backwards for their Center to be happy and accept $200 million dollars guaranteed.
Now, let’s see Jalen Duren make it all worth it!
I think this is what’s most lost in all of this. JD had the right to negotiate this way. He has to maximize his current leverage as the future is never promised. We as fans perceive it as disloyalty. He’s trying to protect his future.
Jalen Duren had every right to maximize his leverage. It paid off. Now, it's on him to turn the page and hit the ground running with the Pistons

Thoughts:
-Glad it’s over.
-JD got the better end of the deal with the addition of more money than the initial offer, weight clause removed, etc but Detroit still has really good flexibility.
-Curious to see how JD comes out of the gate after all of this
BREAKING: All-NBA and All-Star center Jalen Duren has agreed to sign a five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed contract to return to the Detroit Pistons, agent Chafie Fields of THE•TEAM tells ESPN. This ends a prolonged restricted free agency dispute between the two sides.

Duren at $40 AAV is still a large hope on his future. JD has to show improvement in all areas but especially with shot creation, jump shooting, and his defensive impact to make it a valuable investment for this teams immediate and future success.
Here is the difference of Jalen Duren signing with Detroit for 5/200M compared to the Qualifying Offer and max salary in 2027.
There is certainly a significant risk and Duren needs to know $189M is waiting for him, but there is not much difference in the $$.
The weight clause in the Pistons’ five-year, $200 million offer to Jalen Duren has been removed, league sources tell me and @sam_amick:

Not taking into account the cap ramifications of a deal like this is so frustrating as a Pistons fan. It’s not just about his money and value. The whole team, its structure, and future are tied to his new deal. #Pistons
"This would put Detroit back ... Give this man his bread. Don't break this up over a couple of dollars."
Melo emphasizes that the Pistons can't afford to lose Jalen Duren as a piece of their young core amidst their stalled contract negotiations 😳
I’m really excited to see him in running the lanes in transition as a big. The athleticism of him, JD, and Ausar are going to be difficult for teams to match on a nightly basis.
The Pistons quickly pivoted to John Collins after Tobias Harris left in free agency. It's early, but everyone loves his fit.
"I think he’ll be an organization-wide favorite. He just has a ton of positive energy when he walks in the building every day."

@KuKhahil I think Collins’ vertical spacing is going to be interesting and not talked about a ton, especially with Ausar’s ability to get out in transition and improved ball handling. It’s scary to think that their transition offense could be even more explosive and dangerous this year.
