✍️ If we play a 4-2-3-1 with Estêvão at RW, Palmer at CAM, and Rogers at LW, we will have a balance issue.

If we are not inverting a full-back into the pivot like Maresca, then one of the full-backs will stay deep to form a back-three base in possession. Now, this is the interesting part. If you drop Chavarría or Hato deep, Rogers won't have an overlapping full-back to provide width for him to go narrow.

Then, if we decide to drop a right-back deep and use the LB to provide width for Rogers, then Estêvão, as the right winger, will automatically work a lot as a right-back out of possession. And we can use the two FBs to attack at the same time without three defensive-minded midfielders. That means sacrificing Palmer.

Finally, the biggest issue is that we won't be able to get that front three together to switch positions, play freely, and be the best version of themselves. Every move we make has consequences. I think that front three is our strength, and we should not compromise on our strength; rather, we should optimize it.

For Estêvão, I think he can play Neto's role, but he has to improve defensively, his stamina, and his physicality. And that role isn't necessarily a wing-back role because in our structure, the left wing-back is the defensive wing-back, while the right wing-back is the attacking wing-back, and it's basically functioning as a winger.

The best bet is to improve Estêvão in those areas I mentioned, and he will take over from Neto. We will become even more devastating in attack. But for now, the consequence is too much to risk.
