Last year, Plymouth School was able to purchase outdoor play boxes and activity equipment now used by both students and the community.
For everyoneโs safety please comply with provincial regulations:
โ Keep roadways clear to ensure safe passage for equipment, workers, and emergency responders
โ No unauthorized access within 500 feet of forestry operations
Safety is our top priority!
We currently have an active harvest underway near Goldsmith Lake in Annapolis County.
During all active forestry operations, safety is our number one priority โ for our workers and for members of the public.
Harvest areas can be dangerous where heavy equipment is constantly moving around and trees are being felled. In thinning environments especially, visibility is very low and the skilled operators are focused on the job at hand and may not see or hear people nearby.
#DYK Before a single tree is harvested on Western Crown land in Nova Scotia, it goes through a careful, multi-step planning and approval process to ensure itโs done responsibly?
Here's a quick look at how it works:
Only 34 hectares of the original 80-hectare footprint (42%) will be harvested โ with the best 70% of trees left to grow after harvesting is complete. Meanwhile two stands of Old Growth Forest (30ha) immediately between the harvest area and the lake itself will remain untouched.
Ecological forestry doesnโt just mean harvesting fewer trees, it means managing our forest with ecology as the very top objective. Learn about the Goldsmith Lake harvest plan and how WestFor is implementing Lahey recommendations in the area.
๐ข4 rare lichen locations (with 100m buffers)
๐ข2 black ash trees (with 200m buffers)
๐ขAn "ecology corridor" connecting watercourses, wetland, old growth, and game trails to Goldsmith Lake itself.
Did you know the forests around Goldsmith Lake in Annapolis County have a very long history of active forest management spanning over hundreds of years๐ฒThe area was owned by Bowater for many decades and all the roads and trails used in the area were built for forestry activity.
