The Islamabad Talks is "not an event but a process."
The Islamabad Talks laid the foundation for a diplomatic process that, if trust and will are strengthened, can create a sustainable framework for the interests of all parties.

I would like to express my gratitude to the friendly and brotherly county of Pakistan, especially H.E. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, for their initiative of goodwill and good office for the talks.
With the tireless efforts of all sectors in Pakistan, including the government, army, police and security forces to facilitate and manage the talks, talks were held in a dignified and befitting atmosphere for the guests in a calm, orderly and secure environment with equal logistic opportunities for both sides.

The Iranian high ranking negotiating team, with dignity, self-confidence and faith in Allah Almighty and attention to the concerns of the people, pursued dignified talks for the great Iranian nation to ensure and secure the national interests and legitimate rights of the people.

PAKISTAN: The unlawful detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters yesterday, who were protesting outside Adiala jail, Rawalpindi, is yet another example of the repression of the right to protest in the country. Among those detained were former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sisters, Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khanum, who had gathered outside the Adiala jail premises as part of court-mandated weekly family visits which have been denied since 2 December 2025.

Instead of facilitating lawful visitation, authorities responded with arbitrary detention, tear gas and baton charge. Imran Khan’s sisters and other women protesters were forcibly confined for hours in a closed shop near the jail, while dozens of others were detained in the open air for nearly five hours in torrential rain.

This incident is part of a pattern of targeting PTI supporters and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s family by criminalizing peaceful protest and using sweeping and arbitrary bans through section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure as a blanket tool to silence dissent.

Amnesty International urges the Pakistani authorities to immediately end their crackdown on peaceful protests, respect the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and ensure unhindered access to court‑mandated family visits for Imran Khan.

New Zealand welcomes the announcements by the United States and Iran over the past few hours - as we welcome all efforts to bring an end to this conflict.

While this is encouraging news, there remains significant important work to be done in the coming days to secure a lasting ceasefire.

We are grateful for the work of Pakistan, and others such as Turkiye and Egypt, to seek to find a solution to the crisis. 

As we discussed with Secretary of State Marco Rubio today, this conflict has had wide-ranging impacts and disruptions - for both those in the Middle East and further afield including in New Zealand and the Pacific region.

In the coming days and weeks, New Zealand will stand in support of all efforts to bring about a lasting, durable end to this conflict.
