No final da década de 70 um famoso costureiro português, Augustus (em baixo, à direita), decidiu fretar um Boeing 727-100 à TAP para apresentar a sua nova coleção a uma centena de convidados. O voo realizou-se entre Lisboa e Ponta Delgada e este vosso amigo era o copiloto de serviço. Aquelas três modelos, uma delas ex Miss Portugal, iriam passar as criações de Augustus na estreita "passerelle" que era a coxia do B727. Não havia muito espaço mas a coisa resolvia-se. Mas havia um problema maior: onde é que elas haviam de trocar de roupa? Não dava para pensar muito: só podia ser na parte de trás no cockpit. Assim foi durante 15 minutos ou mais. Grande excitação. A coisa só acalmou quando ao fim de muitas mudanças o cabeleireiro de serviço (José Carlos, em baixo à esquerda) se virou para mim e para o comandante, um ex coronel da Força Aérea, e disse mais ou menos isto: "Já viram as meninas despidas uma dúzia de vezes, agora virem-se para a frente se fazem favor". Foi um bocadinho chato porque o coronel e eu próprio íamos alternando na condução do Boeing, nunca a segurança esteve em risco bem pelo contrário. O coronel, que tinha entrado na TAP diretamente para o lugar de comandante na sequência do 25 de Abril (a série "paraquedistas do 25A") tinha algum sentido de humor. Dizia ele a propósito das modelos: "nós lá na Força Aérea não tínhamos disto".

Boeing 767 da United fez uma aproximação demasiado baixa à pista 29 de Newark e a coisa ia acabando mal. Uma das pernas do trem de aterragem do Boeing atingiu um poste de iluminação da estrada adjacente e um veículo de distribuição de pão que ali circulava. O avião acabou por aterrar sem problemas de maior e sem danos físicos para os 231 ocupantes. O motorista do camião ficou ligeiramente ferido com estilhaços de vidros partidos. A United e o National Transportation Safety Board vão agora tentar saber por que razão o Boeing 767 não passou a soleira (threshold) da pista a 50 pés (16 metros) de altitude num perfil de descida com 3 graus incidência como mandam as regras. Assim de repente suspeitaria de mudança súbita de vento (wind shear) mas outras coisas podem ter acontecido. A análise das "caixas negras" irá fazer luz sobre este incidente que por pouco não teve consequências trágicas. Lembro que a fase final da aproximação à pista 02 de Lisboa também passa sobre uma estrada muito movimentada, a 2* Circular
