Presenting: The Seven Dadly Sins
Inspired by own missteps and by the insights of those wiser than I (pretty low bar), I've distilled a list of common pitfalls that many dads, in our quest to provide for our families, seem to fall into.
The Seven Dadly Sins:
1. The Absentee Diner - Missing mealtime (quality time) bonding
2. The Overpraised Child - Hamstringing with excessive praise and protection
3. The Sidelined Spouse - Placing marriage on the back-burner
4. The Comparison Trap - Comparing your child (and yourself) to others
5. The Divinity Dismissal - Overlooking spiritual / religious wisdom
6. The Self-Care Sacrifice - Neglecting personal well-being to a fault
7. The Neglected Nana - Forgetting the value of extended family

Unveiling Your Ultimate Purpose: A Threadπ
1/ Ever pondered the meaning of your existence? Finding your ultimate purpose in life isn't about uncovering a grand, preordained destiny, but rather about discovering what truly fulfills you and aligning your actions with that realization.
2/ Self-Reflection: Begin your journey by delving inward. Take time to reflect on your passions, values, strengths, and dreams. What activities make your heart sing? What causes ignite your passion? Understanding yourself is the first step towards discovering your purpose.
3/ Define Success on Your Own Terms: Reject society's cookie-cutter definitions of success and instead, define it for yourself. Is it making a positive impact on others, finding inner peace, pursuing creative endeavors, or fostering meaningful relationships?
4/ Embrace Growth and Learning: Your purpose may evolve over time as you grow and learn. Stay open to new experiences, explore different paths, and embrace opportunities for personal and professional development. Growth often leads to clarity and deeper self-awareness.
5/ Listen to Your Intuition: Pay attention to your inner voice β it often holds valuable insights about your true desires and aspirations. Trust your intuition to guide you towards the paths that resonate most authentically with your soul.
6/ Serve Others: Making a difference in the lives of others can be a powerful source of purpose and fulfillment. Whether it's volunteering, mentoring, or simply lending a helping hand, find ways to contribute to the well-being of others and the greater good.
7/ Pursue Passion Projects: Engage in activities that light up your soul and bring you joy, even if they don't align with conventional notions of success. Whether it's painting, writing, gardening, or cooking, pursue your passions with gusto and enthusiasm.
8/ Cultivate Meaningful Relationships: Nurture connections with those who uplift and inspire you. Surround yourself with people who share your values and support your journey towards purpose. Meaningful relationships provide love, encouragement, and a sense of belonging.
9/ Practice Gratitude: Cultivate an attitude of gratitude for the blessings in your life, both big and small. Gratitude fosters contentment, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the richness of life, helping you stay grounded on your path towards purpose.
10/ Take Action: Ultimately, discovering your purpose requires action. Set intentions, create goals, and take concrete steps towards manifesting your dreams. Don't wait for the perfect moment β seize the opportunity to live authentically and align your life with your purpose.
11/ Embrace the Journey: Remember that the journey towards discovering your ultimate purpose is as important as the destination itself. Embrace the twists and turns, the setbacks and successes, knowing that each experience brings you closer to living a purposeful life.
12/ In the end, achieving your ultimate purpose is about living authentically, following your heart, and making a meaningful impact on the world around you. Dare to dream big, embrace your uniqueness, and embark on the journey towards a life of purpose and fulfillment. #PurposeDrivenLife #SelfDiscovery πΏ
ATTN Twitter: This Valentine's Day, get the men in your life some flowers π
Men don't receive flowers until their funerals My wife is a flower farmer and farmer florist. Thus, I am spoiled with a bonanza of blooms pretty much year round.
One fact that lives rent free in my head tho:
π’ 88% of men don't receive flowers until their funerals.
There are a lot of reasons for this that I unpack in my Substack (π‘ππ£π πππ‘π€π¬).
Tl;dr - boys in our society are taught from a young age to eschew anything "effeminate" and it's perpetuated into adulthood.
It's a shame π - it wasn't always like this.
--- To quote Claude Monet:
"I must have flowers, always, and always."
There is a reason men (e.g., Mr. Monet) and women throughout the ages have been floraphiles -- the mental and physical health benefits are almost too many to count.
So this Valentine's Day, can we please smash the taboo and get the men in our lives some flowers? π
--- (And for those still reading this, get the ladies in your life some flowers to) ---
Happy Valentine's Day, all! β€
Embracing Family and Life: A Thread πΏ
1/ In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's easy to lose sight of what truly matters: our families and the precious moments we share with them. Here are some reflections on how to savor and enjoy the gift of family and life:
2/ Prioritize Quality Time: Amidst busy schedules and commitments, carve out dedicated time to spend with your family. Whether it's sharing a meal, playing games, or simply chatting, cherish these moments of connection and presence.
3/ Unplug and Be Present: In today's digital age, it's essential to disconnect from screens and be fully present with your loved ones. Set aside designated times for technology-free activities and engage in meaningful interactions that foster genuine connections.
4/ Create Traditions and Rituals: Establishing family traditions and rituals can strengthen bonds and create lasting memories. Whether it's a weekly movie night, a monthly outing, or holiday traditions, these rituals provide stability and a sense of belonging.
5/ Cultivate Gratitude: Take time each day to reflect on the blessings in your life and express gratitude for the love, support, and joy that your family brings. Gratitude cultivates a positive mindset and deepens appreciation for the richness of life.
6/ Embrace Imperfection: Family life is messy, chaotic, and imperfect β and that's okay. Embrace the ups and downs, the laughter and tears, knowing that these experiences shape and strengthen the bonds within your family.
7/ Practice Forgiveness: Conflict and disagreements are inevitable in any relationship, but learning to forgive and let go of resentment is crucial for maintaining harmony within the family. Choose empathy and understanding over holding onto grudges.
8/ Encourage Individuality: Celebrate the unique talents, interests, and personalities of each family member. Create an environment where everyone feels valued, accepted, and free to pursue their passions and express themselves authentically.
9/ Foster Open Communication: Create a safe space for open and honest communication within your family. Encourage dialogue, active listening, and mutual respect, allowing each member to voice their thoughts, feelings, and concerns without fear of judgment.
10/ Embrace Spontaneity: While routines are important, leave room for spontaneity and adventure in your family life. Say yes to new experiences, explore the world together, and savor the excitement of discovering the unexpected.
11/ Prioritize Self-Care: Remember that taking care of yourself is essential for your overall well-being and your ability to show up fully for your family. Make time for activities that recharge and rejuvenate you, whether it's exercise, hobbies, or quiet moments of reflection.
12/ In essence, enjoying your family and life is about cultivating gratitude, fostering connection, and embracing the beauty of the present moment. Treasure each precious moment with your loved ones, and let your family be a source of joy, love, and strength. #FamilyTime #LifeIsBeautiful π
Raising Good Humans: A Threadπ±
1/ As parents, guardians, or mentors, one of our most profound responsibilities is shaping the next generation into empathetic, compassionate, and resilient individuals. Here are some thoughts on how we can cultivate goodness in our children:
2/ Lead by Example: Children learn by observing and emulating the behavior of adults around them. Model kindness, honesty, and respect in your interactions with others. Show them how to apologize when you make mistakes, and they'll learn to do the same.
3/ Foster Empathy: Encourage your children to consider the feelings and perspectives of others. Teach them to recognize and validate emotions, both their own and those of others. Engage in discussions about diversity, inclusion, and social justice to broaden their understanding of the world.
4/ Encourage Independence: Allow your children to make decisions and solve problems on their own. Offer guidance and support when needed, but also give them the space to learn from their experiences and develop confidence in their abilities.
5/ Teach Responsibility: Assign age-appropriate chores and tasks to instill a sense of accountability and contribute to the functioning of the household. Emphasize the importance of fulfilling commitments and following through on promises.
6/ Cultivate Gratitude: Help your children recognize and appreciate the blessings in their lives, whether it's a loving family, good health, or simple pleasures. Encourage them to express gratitude through words, actions, or acts of kindness towards others.
7/ Promote Critical Thinking: Encourage curiosity and intellectual exploration. Teach your children to question information, think critically about issues, and form their own opinions based on evidence and reason.
8/ Nurture Resilience: Life is full of challenges and setbacks, and it's essential to equip children with the skills to cope effectively. Encourage them to embrace failure as an opportunity for growth, and teach them problem-solving strategies and coping mechanisms.
9/ Foster a Culture of Communication: Create an open and supportive environment where your children feel comfortable expressing their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Listen actively, validate their emotions, and engage in meaningful conversations.
10/ Practice Mindfulness: Teach your children the value of living in the present moment and cultivating awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and surroundings. Encourage practices such as meditation, deep breathing, or yoga to promote emotional regulation and stress management.
11/ Emphasize the Power of Kindness: Teach your children that small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect and make a positive impact on the world around them. Encourage them to be compassionate, generous, and empathetic towards others.
12/ Remember, raising good humans is an ongoing journey filled with challenges, setbacks, and triumphs. Be patient with yourself and your children, and celebrate the progress they make along the way. Together, we can create a brighter, more compassionate future. #Parenting #RaisingGoodHumans π
