Very interesting new book on Zahir Shah's rule in Afghanistan. I am excited to read this one - esp given the gap in the literature on that period of Afg's history.
@RamonIHarvey@oasis_wisdom interesting article. I'm curious why the Aristotelian perspective (rather than the heavily Platonic Aristotle) doesn't get a mention - esp since it is quite similar to the view here. The soul as the perfection and form of a body, not alien to a separate substance.
@tamimasey@AimalFaizi Your link doesn't address your claim that people are now engaging in violence and killing their spouses to marry younger women. Where did you get this information from?
@AnalyticaCamil1 also ngl including the trojan horse in a movie on the Iliad is lame. there's enough action in the iliad without the trojan horse (which is an epic tale in itself but not in Homer's Iliad, strictly speaking).
@ali_adili and 2) what does ethnic favouritism mean? by and large, their courts were operating in maj. pashtun areas to begin with. what evidence do we have of ethnic favouritism?
The whole thing falls flat when you look at how poor the repub era courts were for women and the poor.
@ali_adili some qs:
1) the "swift" characterization was to highlight it was both quicker and for many, more fair than the republic's system. less opportunity to buy your way out. this incl violence against women, which republic era courts didn't address as well.
@trm234567@Tyler_A_Harper Agreed - also *if* that is in fact the justification then it's extremely reactive because they haven't invested in smaller class sizes (the opposite - as AI will soon be used to justify cutting TAs and increasing lecture sizes), or giving educators resources to educate.
Reading How To Sell A Genocide, the NYT called every major population centre in the Gaza Strip a "Hamas stronghold" at some point.
They actively worked to militarise civilians in Gaza to justify genocide
"Dualism" doesn't mean "anything that isn't brute physicalism" and a take like this perfectly illustrates why superficial learning is worse than none at all.
