@bwertz The smartest companies will start by discovering and identifying their customers' values, then focus all their innovation, marketing, sales and pricing efforts to amplify and reflect those specific values.
@bwertz It depends on how you define "authenticity."
Is company authenticity simply being who you say you are? Plenty of companies match this definition.
Or (my definition) is authenticity having your corporate values & actions align with and reflect your target customers' values?
@aprildunford Interesting discussion!
In my experience the value / utility of discovering customer values in B2B is equal to, if not greater than, the benefit in B2C.
Most B2B companies ignore their customersโ values. Gaining this knowledge is a competitive advantage.
@aprildunford Customer values can be discovered and measured, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Once identified, shared values are the most effective segmentation tool Iโve found.
@aprildunford@aprildunford What is a market?
My working definition of a market segment:
A group of people who share the same set of values that relate to a particular problem or type of solution.
@ttorres True, itโs slightly slower. Another side effect is that it allows the site to provide more specific error feedback about whether the username or password is incorrectly entered. Perhaps reduces resetting of passwords and/or support calls.
@ttorres It does have the side effect of providing feedback to users who enter the wrong email address, and prevents them from wasting time entering a password until they enter a valid email.
@danmartell@derrickreimer Thanks @danmartell for an open, honest description of your journey.
Understanding customers' perception of #value is unquestionably important. Yet as humans we're all susceptible to confirmation bias.
Your cautionary tale is well worth reading! #ProductManagement#innovation
A few of the attendees at my session at ProductCamp Vancouver practicing their interviewing skills. Who knew that interviewing to discover Customer Perception of Value could be so engaging?
