No one should be denied access to healthcare because they can't afford it. If your health insurance doesn't cover abortion and you need one, you can get help from @AbortionFunds and organizations like @NatAbortionFed https://t.co/xrJaR96xr8
NEW ARTICLE: Do you know whether your insurance covers abortion care?
Many people are unaware of whether their insurance covers abortion. And many ACA plans don’t cover abortion services, even in states with no restrictions on coverage.

These are more philosophical questions than medical ones, but it is what keeps me up at night. Covid combined with the climate crisis and what seems like the unraveling of the US experiment with democracy has me weighing difficult choices about here/now vs what might be.
@skeletalrad I don't understand why this is a question. Leaving on time is such a low bar, and yet we treat this as a privilege and not a basic expectation during training. It's frankly disrespectful to hold people after work for "detailed teaching." The whole day is learning. That's the job.
It's been 2+ years of this pandemic. My partner & I are now the only adults I know in our families & friend/work circles who haven't had Covid.
We test frequently. We've had exposures but stayed healthy thanks to precautions (masks, distancing). I hate that we're in the minority.
Or you could get 100 shots of injectable contraceptives.
Or 325 vaginal rings.
Or 9 implants.
But do go on, men, about how we need to take responsibility and accept the consequences of our actions.
According to the Turnaway Study, from first intercourse to menopause it would take 6,844 oral contraceptive pills to have only two children over a lifetime. And there is still an unintended pregnancy rate of 0.1-2.0 over a lifetime.
@nateyblue@EmmaCHale1 This is an excellent question.
I would also ask for receipts. Some programs talk the talk but do nothing to actually help train residents. You should never have to spend your own money traveling to get training when your own program fails to have a comprehensive curriculum
@EmmaCHale1 As Obgyn you HAVE to have abortion training. How else will you manage ectopic pregnancies? Eclampsia? If programs try to differentiate btwn "necessary" (aka moral) abortions v "elective" abortions, they're gatekeeping. People who gatekeep rarely do it for just one thing.
@EmmaCHale1 As a recently retired FM faculty, YES. You don't want a program that can't answer this question. And lack of compassion for abortion care generally goes hand in hand with other problematic medical takes.
Don't assume that every program in a "blue" state will be supportive.
No matter a person’s reason for getting an abortion, we should never blame them or use their sex lives against them. Sex is complicated. And no matter what we do in our sex lives, we should ALWAYS have the option to access abortion.
My position on the right to choose is simple: our government should not be in the business of telling people what they can and can’t do with their own bodies.
Just a friendly reminder to all my primary care provider friends out there: Gender affirming care is not scary! You can do it! You can look up dosing recommendations online, just like you do for literally everything else in medicine. Don't deny patients care out of nervousness.
Law enforcement was first tipped off the teen had a stillbirth and buried the remains.
Stillbirth is not a crime. It becomes a crime when the state presumes every pregnancy should result in the delivery of a healthy infant *FOR THE STATE*
Public health agencies made this mistake w Covid. They said it wasn't airborne. CDC said no masks for the public in the beginning. Let's not repeat mistakes.
Monkeypox research show it can be airborne so EXTRA caution should be taken. https://t.co/XMe0FTHDjt
I don't know who needs to hear this but MONKEYPOX IS NOT AN STI. Smallpox & chicken pox are also not STIs. There is a lot of homophobic reporting, counseling, and medical decision making being done that is actively hurting the public. Think critically and fight disinformation.
Today is a great day to learn about the work of abortion funds! 📚💜
