In New York, I participated in the high-level meeting, “The Invisible Architecture: Building Safe Digital Systems for Children – Advancing International Standards and Shared Responsibility,” held on the sidelines of UNGA81 and hosted by H.E. Emine Erdoğan, First Lady of the Republic of Türkiye.
I highlighted the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to protecting children and upholding their rights, including preventing violence, exploitation, and emerging risks in the digital environment. Protecting children in an increasingly digital world requires stronger safeguards, international cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Today, I welcomed Mother Safia Moalim Abdulle Omar, the mother of Mohamed Ciise Daahir Yusuf, who achieved first place in Somalia’s Secondary School Certificate Examination.
Her dedication to her son’s education is a powerful testament to the resilience and commitment of Somali mothers. In recognition of her efforts, I am pleased that the Ministry has provided her with an employment opportunity to support her family and her son’s continued education.
I was deeply inspired by their story of perseverance and determination. I congratulate Mohamed and all Somali students on their achievements and wish them continued success in the journey ahead.
I extend my sincere appreciation to the Members of the House of the People for approving the appointment of Advocate Mohamed Hassan Nur to the Independent National Human Rights Commission, following his nomination by the Ministry.
His appointment completes the Commission’s membership following a vacancy created by the resignation of a former commissioner. I commend Parliament for its continued cooperation in strengthening Somalia’s independent human rights institutions and advancing the protection and promotion of human rights.
