Saturday 24/10/26, Sūrah Saba'i (34): 8-22, tafakkur verse 34: 22
Theme: Invoking others besides Allah is futile and regrettable in the hereafter
قُلِ ٱدۡعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ زَعَمۡتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا یَمۡلِكُونَ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّ��ࣲ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَلَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا لَهُمۡ فِیهِمَا مِن شِرۡكࣲ وَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡهُم مِّن ظَهِیرࣲ
“Say, ‘Call upon those you claim besides Allāh. They do not possess an atom’s weight in the heavens or on the earth, and they do not have therein any partnership \[with Him\], nor is there for Him from among them any assistant.’”
LESSONS:
1. Allāh Alone Possesses Absolute Sovereignty. Nothing in the heavens or on the earth, however small, lies beyond His ownership and control. All creation belongs to Him, and He alone possesses ultimate authority.
2. Worship Must Be Directed to Allāh Alone. The verse challenges those who invoke others besides Allāh, exposing the inability of such objects of worship to exercise independent divine power. It affirms the central principle of Tawḥīd: Allāh alone deserves worship.
3. No Creature Shares in Allāh’s Dominion. Neither angels, prophets, righteous people, idols, nor any other created beings possess an independent share in His sovereignty. Whatever abilities creatures possess are granted by Allāh and remain subject to His will.
4. Allāh Needs No Assistant or Supporter. Human beings depend on one another because of their limitations, but Allāh is absolutely Self-Sufficient. He neither needs helpers to sustain His dominion nor partners to accomplish His will.
5. Claims About the Unseen Must Be Guided by Revelation. Love and reverence for righteous people must never lead to attributing divine powers to them without evidence from the Qur’ān and authentic Sunnah. The verse calls believers to distinguish between honouring Allāh’s servants and assigning to them attributes that belong exclusively to Him.
O Allāh, the Sovereign of the heavens and the earth, strengthen our faith in Your absolute Oneness. Purify our worship from every form of shirk, protect us from exaggeration concerning Your creation, and grant us sound understanding of Your revelation. Make our hearts sincerely dependent upon You, our worship exclusively for You, and our lives firmly established upon Tawḥīd until we meet You.
